I've the latest i7 7th generation laptop from Dell but it doesn't have a USB type C port, I checked many high end laptops and none of them have it so how should I connect it to my laptop? The standard is USB 3 and USB 2 so it doesn't make sense as it will just cause inconvenience.

Well, at least in theory you can plug the USB-C part of the cable to a other phones with the USB-C port and suck the juice out of those phones.

Again, One more cable to carry. I think they have decided to launch new type of cables with new iphones. Just for some extra revenue inconvenience of existing customes doesn't matter to apple.

"you'd then need an adapter for practically every other computer but I'm sure Apple will be happy to sell you an adapter for that."

It is weird for them to ditch lightning in the first place because it's one of their main source of profit
But still hope they migrate to usbc

So now users will have to carry two adapters, one with minijack, and one with USB to USB-C
That make life so easier!
Apple fallow its good idea of keeping everything simple and clean on their devices.... no one will care about user experience and amenities, after all, that why they sell so much addos to their devices... so you can say that you dont own only iPhone or Mac, you own whole box of apple products!

If no more lightning cable, so no more licencing to third parties. Even more so, now that even wired headset for iPhone uses lightning.
Keep dreaming
