this is honestly a terrible decision, USB-C is already becoming a huge standard but Apple is always stubborn about not making money off of something they made for themselves... kind of a big reason why the headphone jack is gone.

Uh, no. That ruling isn't in effect yet. It will be somewhere in 2017 and rumor is Apple will supply a small Lightning-to-USB adapter.

Fast charging is a welcome addition. It's useful, unlike "wireless" charging that Androids have. The only advantage of that is not picking up a cable and plugging it in. The disadvantages are it's slower, you can't use it while it's charging. In my opinion, that's not wireless. That's even more wire"full" than regular charging.

Julliard, 03 Mar 2017"To be clear, this is not new. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro alrea... moreI think you dont understand meaning of word "Innovation".
its hard to call it innovative if device will have existing feature/standard used for few years now in other devices, and just force it on users.
And to be honest you dont need usb-c for fast charging, its more about device and charger it self, they need to support it, cable is just cable, it can send even 50W/12v/5A if you like. normal usb cable will work without a problem.
Also to be honest FORCING specific technology its bad idea. usb-c is barely used in Mobile devices and we talking about PC/TV market that implement that standard even slower. Its used in higher-end devices and TV, but those more expensive devices are maybe 25-30% of whole market, rest of people actually still use and buy less expensive models of TV or laptops, because they change them often, so forcing specific standard is not good for users, if company would think about users, not about milking money, they would support both standard, and then slowly shift to only newer one.

"To be clear, this is not new. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro already supports fast charging when you use the optional Apple USB-C to Lightning cable".
So, guys there is nothing new here. USB-C to lightning cable already exist since iPad Pro. No need to stir up needless argument. Innovation; yes. It will be the first iphone with fast charging. Its a long overdue innovation. Should had done it a few years ago.

Apple are doing all they can to totally f*ckup people's lives! Humanity finally has the chance to produce ONE do it all cable - USB-C to USB-C, so you not only don't have to worry about which way around the plug is, but which end of the cable to plug into which socket. IE, this article implies that one end of the table will be USB-C, the other, Lighting, so you have to look carefully, being they are very similar in size.

So then their adapters will be usable only for their iphones, or in other words the iphones will need apple adapters exclusively in the future

I can't understand how in the last passed years, Apple were allowed to sell their products without usb in UE, since all the other brands were forced to use only usb chargers for universal compatibility and reduce of the electonic garbage made from old chargers with proprietary connectors. Apple gave a bribe to EU comission for sure. Apple must had usb charger since iphone 5 !!! UE is a junk

Brain exhausted. USB type C doesnt carry more power than "regular" USB. Its just a port type, both work with different standards on which depends power.
As far as the story goes, Apple fans had ONE thing to be excited about, to be killed before it became a thing.
