03 March 2017
Turns out the new iPhones will still have Lightning connector but will use USB-C on the other end of the cable for fast charging.

Don't worry. People will still buy it. So no worries from Apple's end. I even think it's a good idea (USB Type-C everywhere). But no headphone jack? Yeah that wasn't really a good idea.

Akinaro, 03 Mar 2017I think you dont understand meaning of word "Innovation". ... moreDo you think you really know the meaning of the word 'innovation'? Some of its synonyms are alteration, restyling, rearrangement, restructuring, recasting and remodelling. Innovation means to create something out of existing product. That is exactly what Apple did. The restyle lightning connector with usb c. I also did said its a long overdue innovation. It was introduced in smartphone for the first time in 2015. Nokia N1 tablet had it in 2014.

You are wrong if you assume cable doesnt play any role in fast charging. Unless you talking about normal microusb cable. Usb c offer 20 volts and 5 amps of power, compared with the 5 volts and 1.8 amps of normal microusb. Even the data transfer rate is higher at 10gbps compare to 5gbps on normal microusb. If you havent realized usb c is the one and only cable that can transfer from usb c to usb c. There no such thing as microusb to microusb charging cable or lightning to lightning cable. All of them need the usb head(the big part aka male usb). Thus, making usb c very versatile and reversible.

I dont know why you think its as forcing. The cable come in the box with the phone. No one forcing anything. Its the same cable. Instead of having a big usb head that plug into the power adapter it will have usb c to plug into the power adapter. The lightning connector still plug the same to iphone. Btw, what the heck with the pointless ranting about TV and PC that have nothing to do with usb c? Your argument lack substance.

"Sure, you'd then need an adapter for practically every other computer but I'm sure Apple will be happy to sell you an adapter for that." not really, USB C is the new standard for everything. If you have a PC without USB C, it's old

"I'm sure Apple will be happy to sell you an adapter for that." I'm thankful to Apple, because of their products it's easier to spot stupid people around without talking to them. Just see what phone they use .

Everyday at work I plug in my phone to my PC using a USB cable as to make sure I always have plenty juice when I go on the road. My point is that it would be so nice to just "plonk" my phone onto a charging pad and just pick it up again when I leave my desk instead of always plugging in the USB cable which actually decreases the life span of the charging port on the actual phone. Wired fast charging is definitely advantageous and handy to have but fast charging decreases the life span of the battery and also the charging port on the phone gets used way too often, especially when looking at phones which don't have dedicated earphone jacks which means you use the charging port for both charging and music.
