08 March 2017
High-end Sony Bravias have boasted 4K HDR since 2015, but this is the first screen of its kind in the mobile world.

I have 4K smart TV so I don't need XZP. PASS!

[deleted post]Yeah, it was very unfortunate otherwise Note 7 would have been one of the best phone of 2016.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2017Quite good that have done though, imo only reason above 108... moreAnd what idi*t would use an all-screen phone without accidentally touching the edge screen in which by the way a gimmick!

4k content will be alright as long as x265 becomes the norm for video encoding

Who cares about 5.5" 4K HDR screen which is only marginally better than a normal 5.5" FHD screen? Who watch 4k movies in a tiny 5.5" screen? Another marketing gimmick from sony.

So... HDR is basically the ACTUAL result of what Apple promised with their "wide colour gamut" bullsh*t?

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2017Unless you have fibre optics, forget streaming 4k. Maybe he... moreMan, let's not exaggerate... 4K HDR movies don't have a bitrate of 125MB/s(1000mbs) on streaming services , this is ridiculous, maybe 40MB/s(320mbs) max, Netflix says that you need for 4K HDR a steady connection of 25MB/s(200MB/s)... They say that you need 1000mbs for streaming 4K 360 degrees VR, not for a 4K HDR movie...But yeah you need fiber optics , but sincerely fiber optics have got mainstream, in my country 300mbs costs 6$/month and 1000mbs costs 9$/month.

It's about time Sony makes 4K HDR display a premium standard for smartphones, since mobile companies have been only improving their audio quality for years.

AnonD-632062, 08 Mar 20174K HDR looks promising! BTW I've never understood why Sony... moreConversely you could argue that QHD is a jack of all trades, master of none. It's neither high enough to match what will one day become a defacto resolution standard for entertainment, but uses more processing power than a standard 1080 screen with only marginal improvement in quality. Yes, obviously it's better than 1080p, and you could question the need for 4K on a phone other than VR, but QHD will only ever be a half measure.

Correct me if i wrong but from what i remember Samsung introduced HDR with note 7. So that means HDR is not exactly a new thing in xperia XZ premium and obviously i don't care about 4K. The new Sony camera is very camera is very capable hardware wise but it will be overshadowed by other phones because of its processing. Poor Sony fans, they get the best hardware but Sony makes it useless by their extra effort.

AnonD-39937, 08 Mar 20174K HDR is not meant to be downloaded from Torrent, it's far... moreUnless you have fibre optics, forget streaming 4k. Maybe heavily compressed 4k (like youtube's) but that's not 4k, it's "better than 1080p" . Real 4k is supremely impressive ( for example samsung demos) and *can't * be streamed by most people. Sth like 1GB per minute ... which is ridiculous (100+ Mbit download, minimum!).

Real 4k is also irrelevant on a phone, so kudos to Sony that their engineering team managed to pass through the decision team with the idea that people can discern the difference between 540 ppi and 800 PPI on a phone (typically held 11 inches away from the user).
