Xiaomi Mi 6 tipped to feature the Sony IMX400 sensor

Xperia line doesn't make much profit unlike their sensor business and 90+% Iphone8 S8 Mi6 customer won't change their mind because of the sensor only. So it makes sense for Sony to put highest price and quantity of their sensors in those phones as much as possible. Imagine Sony can double Xperia sell with half of their sensor sell loss that would bring their overall profit down.

Good camera sensors should be available only in Sony smartphones, not other brands. Because if thats the cause they will copy the "Motion Eye".

Now matter how good the sensor is, the pictures taken is the most important. Hope it could at least reach the level of G4.

"Previously, the Mi6 was rumored to employ the IMX386, and that still makes a little more sense - after all, why share you top-end sensor with the competition from day one?"
The thing is, Xiaomi isn't much of a competition for Sony. Xiaomi's latest flagships are usually exclusive to China and sometimes might make an appearance in India, but that's it, their sale numbers outside those areas are abysmal. Sony handsets, on the other hand, are not sold officially in China anyway and their market share in India is minimal. So no, Xiaomi isn't much of a competition for Sony. I'm not saying that Xiaomi 6 is getting the new sensor, I'm just poiting out that Sony would indeed be able to make some quick buck by selling sensors to Xiaomi and that wouldn't impact their sales in any meaningful way.

That is great, people will experience IMX400 with half price of XZP, even it still below XZP performance but no buddy can complain for that price tag.

AnonD-39937, 11 Mar 2017Sony never shares the exact sensor they use in their top of... moreYeah you're right, Sony never shares their exclusive sensors (i.e. IMX 240 & 260 exclusive for Samsung, IMX 300 & 400 exclusive for Sony), remember the Oppo R9s was rumored have the same Dual Pixel, same aperture, same sensor like the Galaxy S7 but when it's released, yeah they have the same Dual Pixel and aperture but different sensor and Oppo R9s' camera quality is terrible.

The Chinese came to stay. The major smartphone manufacturers must prepare to face a competition of weight. What alone lacking Chinese is currently a logistics of worldwide distribution of its products.Which are very good.

I dont see why they wouldnt allow Xiaomi use this sensor. Its quite small for its resolution - making it effectively a mediocre sensor with slow mo recording, nothing more, nothing less. It isnt a flagship sensor.
