Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 to sport MediaTek's Helio P25 SoC, not the Snapdragon 660

13 March 2017
The phone is expected to keep its predecessor's dual camera setup; it should get official at the end of this month.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2017MT6595 was clearly beating the Qualcomm of the time (SD805)... moreAs I said, their chips aren't worth being in any device if they can't make any good chip for two years.

yes, it sucks, if true pro redmi 2 helio p20 wear and not wear snapdragon 660, xperia XA1 better at wearing the same p20 helio

Wrong move by Xiaomi.. Better use own SoC Surge 1 instead of Helio P25.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2017MT6595 was clearly beating the Qualcomm of the time (SD805)... moreYeah, Mediatek can produce good chipsets in a budget, but you can't say Qualcomm chips are bad. And SD625 is a well balanced midrange chipset, with decent performance and awesome power saving capabilities.

And since SD660 (which has A73 or Kryo cores, I'm not sure) is way better than Helio P25, I don't think there would ever be a Snapdragon version (there wasn't one on the first Redmi Pro)

Well, that sucks. Less exciting now.

Judging by Xiaomi's SOC habits with other phones, there will probably be a Snapdragon version coming out a bit later. It wouldn't be surprising based on their past actions with their Redmi series.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2017MT6595 was clearly beating the Qualcomm of the time (SD805)... moreThink you will be surprised with X30 GPU performance especially usage sustained one. On the other hand everything else about it isn't really interesting especially deca core setup which is rather bad.

As much as MT6752 whose a good SoC it almost didn't got any support from MTK & only rare (shiny star's) of the phones with it had some (Yiaju S3, Lenovo Lemon Note 3).

If you really want a progress refuse to buy phone's with bad SoC's that bring the performance metrics down like S625 & P2x, P3x siblings. X2x whosent that bad regarding it's performance & certainly whose a huge step up but it's worser then S65x series (especially S652~S653 one's) regarding both power consumption and through in real workloads. X2x may have better synthetic performance than S65x series but real life one is the one that counts.

AnonD-402029, 14 Mar 2017yeah, but it doesnt matter with normal user. But it does when you can't get an android version upgrade nor a fix because all closed source blobs that you even as an OEM can't influence to.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2017MT6595 was clearly beating the Qualcomm of the time (SD805)... moremediatek is not bad but its not good either. and sd 625 is an excellent soc not just good but excellent. mediatek soc consumes more battery and heat more than other chipsets. u can see a test made by a youtuber in youtube.forgot his id but there is and i personally have experienced it.i hope mediatek can do something in 2017 coz it is cheap in price so wanna see good things so that chap phones with good mediatek soc can come out

AnonD-558092, 13 Mar 2017Yaaay! MediaTek! The worst chips ever made for Android! Woohoo!MT6595 was clearly beating the Qualcomm of the time (SD805) in counperformance.

So mediatek is clearly capable of creating great cpus (not so great GPUs though, but very few actually care for gpu performance). Lately they experience a bot of a slump. Their last trully good SoC (for its price specially) was MT6752 which was released 2 years ago...

It's bad that Mediatek is in a slump though. It allows Qualcomm to release terrible SoCs (like SD625) and price them for a pretry penny. People who are blindly critical to Mediatek misunderstand the situation, they allow for a Qualcomm semi-monopoly which can become as terrible as Intel's monopoly (almost no performance gains for 6 years in a row).
