Next gen iPhone won’t feature NFC support

14 March, 2011
There's always been immense speculation surrounding the next generation iPhone - will it feature that or the other, will it have a bigger display, will it have a better camera, etc. And now that the iPad 2 is out...

LOL! I love Apple's ways, deliberately omit features that others are rushing to add yet still manage to be market leader, they sure make the whole smartphone industry more exciting. They dare to be different.

Oh and just because it's too hard for me to resist the incessant Nokia vs. Everybody Else trolling - I think we should all reserve final judgment on Sym^3 until it gets the big update it so desperately needs. That doesn't mean it's not OK to shun it now: I'll be the first to admit it's a bit old-hat (although I happen to like it). But if you're not desperate to buy a handset RIGHT NOW, I'd say it's worth waiting for a bit to see what Nokia can come up with.

Would be pretty frakin' cool IMHO if the "big update" is actually an update to a smooth, streamlined and up-to-date WP7...

I don't always agree with Apple, but in this case we see eye to eye: if there isn't a clear NFC standard then extreme caution really is the best option.

Having said that, I'm very surprised to hear that such a standard hasn't yet been agreed upon. The chip-based system currently used in many credit cards is practically ubiquitous these days - how hard can it be to agree to a similar system, or just shoehorn the existing tech into the handsets?

However, double-tap works just fine, but aside of that, it works just as smooth as on the video. Also, this month will probably launch the new firmware for S^3 devices that will bring the new browser, so who knows.
However, I don't want by any means to prove that Symbian is pefect, no plataform is, but it isn't nearly as bad as some people believe.

Let's face it you can't get that and me neither. Actually No-one else either because it havent been launched yet and when it launched it comes only for android, maybe later for others too...

But where opera is now, it sucks.

I tryed for a day opera and it was bad.

The Symbian text entry is bad? Yeah, but you have Swype, that provides a experience far ahead of typical QWERTY keyboard, not to mention that the iPhone keyboard doesn't even have a haptic feedback. The browser sucks? Yeah, but there's Opera Mobile. The menu looks old? Maybe, but there's SPB Mobile Shell, Touch Grid and several apps that can change the menu and even home-screen interface with ease. So everything that people complain about Symbian have a "solution", quite opposite of the iPhone limitaions.

Why everyone keep saying this? Most of apps freeze because they dont need to do anything else. Then there's GPS apps, dropbox cloudservice app, iRC apps, radiostream apps, apple airplay/stream etc.

All those do more than just freeze, you can download/upload files with dropbox at background, you can use apple airplay (watching movies with appletv while surfing on web etc. Radio apps can play music at background or record radio. GPS giving you driving introduction while you surfing on web (i don't recommend that)

Anyway I am not a nokiaboy FYI. I owned Samsung Galaxy Ace, Iphone 3GS and Nokia 1202. I am just unsatisfied with what I have with IOS or Andriod, I have used my friend's N8 and it is superb, well sometimes it lags a bit but minimal, not as smooth as my 3GS, but I can say I envy the features of it that I don't have in my current phones. IP4 also doesn't have it either, so I did not Upgraded my Iphone.

If Iphone will just have all the features of N8, then all will be happy, I don't want to loose my money for a limited phone like this., If IP5 will be like what I am saying, then I will buy it, I am still on deciding state, Iphone or N8, I may wait for this IP5 or maybe after the whole new update of S^3, or the awaited meego device from Nokia. Iphone(Apple) must lower their prices because of the many limitations. Their prices will be worthy if they build it like N8, (except the Processor and memory).
