Counterclockwise: HTC HD2 and friends run any OS under the sun

26 March 2017
With most phones, you're stuck with the OS that came pre-installed. What if that wasn't the case?

[deleted post]award? hahahahaha best innovative phone of the year ohh really? good in design? that's why sony didn't release how many phones they've sold in one year.. ohhh really? that's why theyre struggling releasing 7.0 to their square phone hahahahaha love the design? that's why they didn't sell will hahahahahahaha

-the word that every fanboy says when they can't take the hurtful reality

"nexus fans and pixel fans DONT LIKE SQUARE phones and a mediocre camera take not on that."

So they basically hate the phones they're a fan of

[deleted post]First of all, I'm not a tech illiterate, I just share what I know and my own opinion, and whether you agree or not, it's up to you, but it's none of my business. Second, where the freaking hell in this beautiful planet that I have ever said you're a Samsung fanboy? I only made mention of Samsung and now you're assuming that I'm thinking you're a Samsung fan? Dude what a logic right there. Besides, I don't care what brand you are a fan of, since it has nothing to do with what we're talking about here. Third, try and read my comment again. What I mean by taking over is like running Google's own business by Sony more than Google themselves, just like HMD running Nokia more than Nokia itself working on its own comeback. I didn't say Sony will be the Google of tomorrow, I just said Sony will do a lot better when their software development team will be sent to Google for them to work there, and Android will be a better OS than ever. Fourth, I can name a lot of innovations Sony has made. Want me to name each of them?
              -first waterproof smartphone
-first phone with 4K video recording
-first to have EIS that is superior to OIS
-first 1/2.3" camera sensor on smartphone
              -first 4K display
-idea of dual heatpipe for heat dissipation
              -first 4K HDR display
-first memory-stacked camera sensor on a smartphone
-first ultra slow motion 960fps video recording on smartphones
              -first LDAC on smartphone
And I can still continue on.
With all of that, what innovation did Motorola or Samsung brought? Modular craps? Explosive notepad? Good that they're having innovation, but I don't need them, and maybe, just maybe, no one even need them LOL

Google ... moreI know, but what I meant is like Sony will work harder than Google to run the Android OS, just like HMD running Nokia instead of Nokia itself working on its own comeback. With the Google-Sony collaboration on developing the next Android OS, we could even expect Sony to build the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2, or better, they'll ask Sony instead to build a Google phone for them

this artice forgot about N9, n950, n900 and other maemo phones, they could run any os and n9 could dual boot, triple boot meego, sailfish, android, nemo etc

and they did port ios core to n900 you can check it here

Yea right, it's not about the skin, but it's about functionality, and clearly Sony does a lot better than Google. How? Which Android OS has better stability? You'd be a fool prick if you don't know. There can't be any other than Sony.
Who sent February 2017 Security Update first? It was Sony.
In which was Doze Mode inspired from? It was from Sony.

In mobile, nobody cares about Linux since barely anyone even know it. A consumer buys an Android, and what he/she'll know about it is that it's an Android OS device, not a Linux whatsoever. Only then, I thank you for sharing the information, but about how many in this world even know about it? Probably 5 of 100,000 people only do. But yes, it does matter, so I won't argue about that.

Let's not say Sony will take over of them, but their current situation makes me feel like Sony is going to play a big part of Android OS soon, as their own implementation of the OS on their phones is amazing, probably the best in the platform along with HTC. Samsung might do so, but I don't think they'll benefit that much, probably Sony and HTC are going to contribute a lot to Google when developing an OS. Until then, it's just a battle of Android vs Android, both of which are aiming at one thing; beating every other mobile OS in the world, and soon to dominate iOS in every possible way

You sound like a tech-illiterate fool who was sold on a Sony contract. Do you even have an idea what an operating system is? It is much more than a skin.

The mobile space is dominated by Linux and BSD. Those are the two operating systems that matter. Everything mobile is a hybrid of those two. Mostly back porting things like libc and pledge and libressl and malloc from OpenBSD to other kernels. Sony and Nintendo use FreeBSD for their consoles but that is a different use case where the Venn diagram overlap is minimal with mobile.

Google is not going to give up Android. Maybe move to another kernel years down the line to take control of the moving driver API problem that makes updates impossible for most smartphone manufacturers as well as unaddressed bloat in the Linux tree, but that will almost certainly be an internal project (or purchase of QNX). Sony does not play in the operating system space.

These are some cool phones. I am waiting for dual boot phones with Android & Sailfish OS. Maybe Nokia can do it but I ain't getting my hopes up. Thesedays phones are coming with incremental updates, need a ground breaking phone.

Different OS truly relies on Sony because they make the best OS in the world (iOS is nowhere comparable). This explains why Sony OS was found out to be the most stable on Android platform, even more stable than stock Android itself (pure shame to have a skinned UI be better than Google's own implementation lol). Now Google and Sony are working together in developing Android O to adapt Sony's own audio features that they had ever since Xperia era started, and Samsung and others will play the catch up game. Soon, it'll no longer be a surprise if Google asks Sony to take over their business and Android will be so much better than it is today
