Anonymous, 28 Mar 2017Sometimes some designs are too good to move away from. ... moreComputer change form a lot though. Starting from a computer the size of a whole room. Changing from an ugly typewriter shape IBM computer to a huge box-like PC computer that finally have real display. Now, its a flat screen monitor with relatively portable cpu. Then we want it to be more portable so, we invent laptop and notebook. We want something more mobile and dont need to be placed on a desk so we invent the tablet. It keep on changing. Evolution of computer in just 70-80 years. Soon it will be ubiquitous with AR computer being available. No physical hardware needed to be hold in our hand. All you need is your eyes. Still think it will keep its form? Dont think so.

Nice, I'm hoping for a 17:9 5.5" - 5.8" device with minimum bezels. I don't think taller screens are a good idea for one handed use unless the device can shut off a portion of the screen for such a mode (without looking grey like LCD or causing a line because the rest of the screen has dimmed from more use than that part like AMOLED).

Don't be surprised when it turns out not to be bezelless at all. The photo shows one corner of the phone. Usually there is a reason they don't show the whole phone. OnePlus has been a master of this sort of hype. Make all kinds of crazy promises to get people interested, then ride out the disappointment and spin it as best as possible when the real phone is not like what they claimed.

Given that photo it would especially not be surprising to find there is a bezel at the bottom of the phone. Or that may just a prototype, who knows. I recommend everyone lower their expectations.

AnonD-535480, 28 Mar 2017I am not getting on that hype train. It's just another and... moreSometimes some designs are too good to move away from.

For example the book paradigm is with us for 500 years.
Cars are basically the same thing for the last 100 years.
Planes for the last 70 years...

You get my drift. Human artifacts often take a form and stay there. The personal tablet/assistant/computer that for historical reasons alone we call "phones" is a staple of most Sci fI stories the last 70 years ... I doubt it's a design that wI'll easily go away. It may stay with us for decades more, centuries even. So don't much count on Apple or Google changing this, it's possible that they can't even if they wanted to...

AnonD-105714, 27 Mar 2017That's what exactly I was thinking...before buying my 5.5in... moreI never did . I always go back to my 4.7 (main) device. I mean it makes sense too, it's not as if your hands suddenly get larger. You merely get used in being more uncomfortable when using your phone and you subconsciously make the trade with more real estate.

Since I also have a tablet and actually prefer it when at home, I can live with a smaller screen. So my main device was (and remains), a 4.7 incher (because I find it the best compromise between size and handling). My 5.5 incher is mostly a device of "special operations", say long nights away from home where I need a relatively big yet portable device.

But really, you never get used to it. You merely realize that comfort of use was never that primary to you (and like I said that line of thinking only works with some people). Still you can't know without trying first, so I implore anyone to try a phablet for severeal days first.

As it is turns out, they are preferable to some,in my personal circle most prefer smaller phones despite half of them owning a big one (I guess marketing?)

I am not getting on that hype train. It's just another android phone and frankly I am tired of this, I am waiting for someone to step up and finally move us beyond the Apple template we've been using this past decade. It does not look like anyone else will be able to do the job so we are stuck waiting on Google and Apple who have no incentive to move us beyond the current status quo since they are on the winning side currently. Such a shame though.

I bet 95% of the Android fanboys on GSMA didnt even know who Andy "Android" Rubin was before reading this article..

Eager. Essential really? Thats seriously a bad name

If it sacrifices the front camera/sensors placement for design, then it's already a failure

I am curiously waiting for the announcement! I think Google will have a serious competitor this year!

I think this whole bezelless thing is just an useless hype. Okay, smaller bezels are good but no bezels at all. Where is it good for?

I do not see any pro at this point but just only cons.
Like; it can break more easily and if it breaks; the chance that your screen cracked is higher.

                          Can someone explain.

Yes! The modular phone idea is not dead, it will even have a bezelless display.
