Weekly poll results: Galaxy S8 a bit pricey, voters want value for money

02 April 2017
To be fair, the rumored price (mentioned in the poll) proved higher than the official retail price.

it's funny, because all the hype we've heard so far about S8, was basically from Samsung's 10 bil paid ads lol.

So funny how iPhone will simply get launched and blow it away. S8 has a lot of work to do, especially after the S7 debacle.

AnonD-334650, 03 Apr 2017Do you really think you can put an arbitrary value on speed... moreYou can put relative price. I.E if a phone with similar performance (in "speed", camera, battery) is being priced similarly you also need the rest of the package ... which is nowhere to be found in Samsungs.

I know of no place where you get similar support as in any given apple store and yes not all places have apple stores , but most cities have an official retailer that gives almost same service. In my parents' small city, gave my brother a replacement for his battery bugged 6s w minimal fuss (same day service). So unlike Samsung they admit mistake, fix it promptly and don't take away your device (unlike the Note 7 fiasco).

As for performance itself, don't throw me numbers. 3GB for 7 plus can store the equivalent of 8GB of ram on any Samsung, simply because background ios apps use 30mb at most (checked). Sure it's not full backgrounding but for 90% of the people is enough. Same with the SoC which is far better in single core (almost twice as fast) and almost the same in gpu despite being older. As a result people experience a quite faster experience, where everything stays in the background neatly, games run with almost twice the frames (the reasonable resolution helps too), cameras snap even in low light and all for the same price *but* much better customer care.

Lastly the software: Android is a better OS (which is why I'm using android), but the Samsung version of it is a buggy mess. Things like that never happens on an iphone (or a Google pixel for that matter): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHrRvommniY

So while in functions it is a better OS, Samsung does everything in her power to make it less well written and on top of that stops upgrading early, which means you're left with any outstanding bugs for the longest time. Sure, you can root and put a custom rom and continue having support from there, but in which case why buy Samsung in the first place?

Samsung gives you a service that is inferior to many androids even, now why is it priced as high as an iPhone (which has much fewer instances ... of any of those issues) is beyond me. Samsung tries to pretend quality by high prices, not by high service.

And I'm thankful for their R&D but iF it keeps producing stuff like Bixby (which let be frank is the lobotomized brother of Google assistant from what we know) they only incur additional cost to the user for no good reason, apart from having to feed its huge bureaucratic belly and having to feel the thousands of employees that Samsung wouldn't have to pay if she was a well run business not as embroiled in scandals, semi-monopolies and semi-illegal tactics of product hoarding.

So -yeah- pay Samsung for what she used to ask, not a penny more. You don't become excellent by willing yourself to it. And Samsung has not become excellent, if anything some of her standards has regressed from the Note 4/S4 era...

LG G5 is the best value for money. It's the cheapest flagship. It's much much cheaper than the S8, yet it has better features than S8 (removable battery, FM Radio, IR blaster) and it has the best camera among 2016 flagships. And Snapdragon 835 is not a big upgrade compared to last year's S820. So if you consider all factors, LG G5 is still the best phone overall.

Anonymous, 03 Apr 2017Up to the first 500-600 is speed and functions. In which ca... moreDo you really think you can put an arbitrary value on speed and functions? Do you think even if you could, you are qualified to do it? No to both. What is factual is generally with tech purchases like phones you pay a premium for the most up to date tech and also for high-end tech that fit into smaller lighter packages. Take tv's 4k tv's were very expensive when they first appeared and premiums were paid for smaller, lighter ones. The S8 has the latest tech, lots of it, packaged in a beautiful designed compact and light package. The latest iPhones have low-res, old-tech screens, out of date battery packages low levels of RAM memory and the same for storage at the same price point. This is just the start. Yet despite this their phones are big, heavy for the screen sized and have old outdated designs.

As for support and service, you have to pay extra for Apple care and in general you do not get a return on your investment as with most extra-warranty packages. Support may be good in certain areas or at Apple stores, however in the whole world it is no better and in many cases worse than Samsung or other Android OEMs.

As for updates, well IOS is always behind Android, I had features on my Android phones years ago that iPhones still do not have. What is the point boasting about updates when all they are delivering is something old and when it comes brings hellish problems with the update, including bricking and severely slowing or inhibiting functionality, especially to older models.

Samsung spends far more on R&D than Apple and there is a cost to this as well as a benefit to the consumer. In fact, in relation to their peers' Apples spends much less in this area. So sorry your arbitrary assumptions are just plain wrong.
