I owned a S2 for nine months and it was never slow for me. The Galaxy S phones I owned were factory unlocked. There was no provider/carrier junk on them. Based on what I have seen the factory unlocked versions yield better results in terms of performance.

I don't have a seven year old Galaxy. I also have no reason to lie about the performance I speak of. I will stick to what works for me and you stick to what works for you. It's as simple as that.

Also, I doubt that your seven year old Galaxy S runs smoothly. I have S2 and in most cases it's painfully slow.

The option to not show the app drawer button doesn't mean you have to have all apps on the desktop, it just means you slide your finger up from the lower screen to see the app drawer.

                Samsung Execs:
"Since we are a copycat and a company full of gimmicks, we have to live up on that name. We need to copy again for our S8, from Sony's digital clock to Apple's no app drawer. Oh, it might be too obvious so we'll just give them option to hide it for an iphone-ish style."

                Hahaha. Pathetic!

My Galaxy S doesn't lag and it isn't rooted. Once you take the necessary steps to keep it in tip top condition you should be good. Just like a computer, you need to fine tune it every now and again to get optimal performance. Every now and again I clean clutter, clear system cache, clear RAM on my Galaxy S and it runs like new every time.

Emotion UI may be cleaner but the features offered by TouchWiz makes it worth it. In fact TouchWiz is usually a step ahead of the game. For instance when comparing the Google's official Nougat ROM to Samsung's implementation of Marshmallow, I was able to identify at least 5 Nougat features that were already available in Samsung's version of Marshmallow. The same goes for Samsung's version of Lollipop. When comparing the Google's official Marshmallow ROM to Samsung's implementation of Lollipop I was able to pinpoint a few features which were already available in Samsung's version of Lollipop...for example being able to reply to a SMS directly from the notification itself.

Last but not least...while Nougat boasts pop up video, the five year old Galaxy S3 already had that and that was running ice-cream sandwich. Also, Nougat boasts multi-screen well the 5 year old Galaxy Note 2 debuted that feature...which made it's way to the S4 and S5 as well.

Samsung and TouchWiz is always one step ahead of the game.

If you want the UI on your S7/ S7 edge, you can install it.

Of course, if you only use your phone to play games and browse the web, then almost ANY phone is good for you. But when you are a business professional and you need your phone to get actual work done, Android is the last option. Windows first, iOS second, Android last.

the app drawer is still there.
you just need to perform a Pixel style swipe up jutsu to make it appear.

                                        :)
