The optimal display would be something like a 16:9 (HD family aspect ratio) and folding in thirds, as this would leave the folded device also about 16:9 (in the other direction of course)
We could have a handy 4.5" FHD PHONE sized device that unfolded to a 8" tablet sized QFHD device. The best of both worlds....
And if created REALLY clever, the back of one of the thirds could hold a QWERTY hardware keyboard, so only unfolding this third, you would have a qwerty-device with the opposite third as a display for it (and the other two thirds of the display facing down)

Holding off on releasing the next big thing because current products sell well...it's completely understandable, but if others get the jump on them, Samsung should mind that they don't go the way of Kodak.
