AT&T to acquire T-Mobile USA, set to become USA's largest carrier

21 March, 2011
Ever since Deutsche Telekom announced its plans to sell T-Mobile USA a while ago, we were waiting to hear who would shell out the presumably hefty asking price. Well, wonder no more, as on Sunday...

I think this is a win win for all people who are on t-mobile, and especialy ones who are on at&t now. I would only be worried if the deal was cash only. 8% in shares is a big deal, like stated before Deutsche Telekom will be a part of the board of directors. they are able to help make decisions and help at&t steer in the right direction.

Yes in USA, at&t will have the monopoly in gsm if this goes through but think about it... that means buying power will be huge! which translates in lesser prices for customers to buy phones and much better plan prices. I see a lot of people stating that they switched from at&t to t-mobile because it was cheaper. Let me ask you this... Dont you think at&t knows this?? Do you think they will just keep the exact same price as they have now? I dont think so!! Everyone knows that competition is what makes prices lower but people forget that verizon and sprint plus all the small guys are still out there.

customer service is a huge part of a succesful buisness and from what i see every year t-mobile always wins. I'm 100% sure that they will incorperate this into everyday practice. if not then that would be plain stupid.

Network will only be better whith the rollover. Combined they can produce a real 4g LTE with voice incorperated. I still believe in hspa+ but with a true 4g network to 95% of americans, no company can touch it. verizon's LTE now is in only 30 cities (most in airports and can only be used on websticks and one evo clone)which can not touch t-mobiles hspa+ everywhere...

as a t-mobile user with at&t buisness plan i am super happy with this and hope it goes through. if not then ohwell...

As I read all these comments i think it's funny how everyone was saying how much better verizon, sprint and at&t are, and now with the rollover people are saying how much better t-mobile is than the rest. I just laugh at that...

So if the deal goes thru, then I guess AT&T is going to change it's name?

How about "T&A"!!! Huh! Just a suggestion!

I agree with post below. If Telenor buy T-mobile it will be one of the largest GSM network in the world. Telenor is a very good company that can bring a lot of good new services. It can be a very good competition to AT&T but I have a filling that Norway company is not interested in buying american brunch of T-Mobile. I hope that guys from Telenor read this.

omg, r u using Tmo? Tmo has a plan call Even More Plus, it's the no contract plan. It cost $49.99 for 2 line family plan with 750 mins, Tmo had promotion back then that all additional line cost $0, you could add up to 3 line, using my school ID, the activation fees was $0 too, that's how you get $50 for 5 lines, no tricks needed. Tell me ATT will has that kinds of deal? in ur dreamz........

i don't know why your all hating on AT&T iv'e been with them since they were cellular one and then came AT&T. there fine where i live and i travel alot and i like sim card technology. i live in NY so AT&T is strong where i live yeah here and there something goes wrong but thats every company. to me in NY every company is good bc NY is a big area if you live in the mid west then you speak for your self, but in the north east where i live AT&T is strong.

This is a long way from over. A GSM monopoly is the US is not going to be an easy sell. And Verizon’s lobbyists are all over this plan…

there must be something we could do to avoid the s4ucker ATT which has crappy service with ridiculous price. I been with T-mobile for years and now only paying $50 for 5 lines with 750 anytime minutes, no contract, of course, the usual unlimited stuffs too. You think ATT gonna give us that offer? NO WAYs, JOSE!!! once they completely take over Tmo, im thinking switching over to simple mobile, but i think ATT will give that small potato too. my last option is to go with pageplus, damnm, all my GSM world phone will be useless. There must be something we could do to block the deal. email FCC? justice? FTC? we cant afford the lobbists

I don't think many of you understand, THIS IS NOT A MERGER. It is a complete acquisition of T-Mobile USA's assets by AT&T (aka Southwestern Bell).

This is only bad news when it comes to consumer pricing. Lack of true competition will only result in monopolized pricing schemes and a lesser entitlement to the customer. It's bad for all cell phone users in the US. It only gives headway for Verizon to acquire Sprint and make this a two party show.

We want Telenor to buy T-Mobile. I don`t like At&t and I will swich to Sprint if they merged. Telenor can only help us :)

This is bad news for us all in the long run because the savings that will be passed to us from the merge will be very little compared to what it should be. Sure it will increase the phone selection choices, but plans will be deceptively limited. Unless Verizon starts offerring more world phones we will be screwed-they wont because it increases the possibility of jumping ship and they will have no incentive to become a bridge.
