AnonD-307714, 05 Apr 2017No, your wrong Generations are based in device name time... moreYou kidding me? Note's generation is the same as the galaxy'S generation of that year. Just look at each Note, it's basically an "upgraded" (lately ever so slightly) version of an S phone.

S5/Note 4 are the same gen.

This is the 4th gen in a row we get a QHD variant and pentile. Samsung is clearly burying VR at this point. It's not even funny. When a company things she can't compete in a given industry, dies everything in her power to keep it back. It has happened myriad of times in the past.

Since VR (and possibly mobile VR) can in edefect change the world for the better ... what Samsung does with VR is actually worse than what she did with SD835 hoarding.

She must *finally* be called for her sh*t

Samsung has dominated the smartphone screen market in terms of quality since their AMOLED screens reached decent color accuracy (around galaxy S5). It's stating the obvious at this point that their screens are the best. I do think there has been little improvement since the S5 / Note 4 era, but that's just because it's hard to improve on perfection.

But my point was related to screens that have the same "declared" PPI, price point etc.
Like when comparing the specs of Samsung S8 with LG G6, some would conclude that the screens have practically the same sharpness (based on resolution), but they would be mistaken.
The fact that you can't see the difference of a 2K screen at a "normal" viewing distance is another objection, but then, why have a a phone with that resolution in the first place? If it's for VR, then having a non-PenTile *does* make a difference (for the better).

Personally, I'm more offended by this as a general marketing scam, that affects phones of lower prices (and specs), where PenTile *is* visible to the naked eye at "normal" viewing distance.

as a programmer or designer you can no more code pixel perfect game/app/image for S8 as every pixel will be re interpreted and remapped to this diamond pixels ..

                                      From the source:
"The display has Diamond Pixels (see below) and Sub-Pixel Rendering with 570 pixels per inch (ppi), providing significantly higher image sharpness than can be resolved with normal 20/20 Vision at the typical viewing distances of 10 inches or more for Smartphones, so the display appears perfectly sharp.
The Galaxy S8 uses Sub-Pixel Rendering, which further improves image sharpness because the individual Red, Green and Blue Sub-Pixels are treated as independent addressable image elements and are not bound together into fixed Pixels, so the closest sub-pixel is used when rendering the image. In some cases Sub-Pixel Rendering can make the screen appear to have up to 3 times the resolution of traditional Pixel Rendering."

"significantly higher image sharpness", "improves image sharpness".Really?! Then how come the sharpness of these PenTile screens is *worse* (more pixelated / jagged) when you compare (side by side) one to a screen with the same "pixel" density, but with "traditional" rendering?
                                      For example: [Samsung S3 (PenTile) vs HTC One X], [Samsung A3 (2016 or 2017) (PenTile) vs iPhone 6 / 6S / 7], [OnePlus 3 (PenTile) vs. Moto G4].

PenTile actually makes it *worse*. No marketing babble can change what you can see with your own eyes in a store display.
There was even a rumour that the S8 will not use this bad pixel arrangement to improve the sharpness: http://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_s8_to_come_with_an_rgb_amoled_and_no_home_key-news-22024.php
