You should ask from the vendor to install the global rom. Never use Xiaomi with Chinese Roms, they're not meant for outside China. You can even do it yourself, You don't need to unlock to install the global rom. There is a 3 step guide. You only had issues with play store because you used the chinese software.
Agreed about the camera. (The only issue of the phone).
Unless you need a good camera s8+ is a serious downgrade.
Less performance and less storage (if you had the 6GB Mi mix), quite less battery (despite having the same thickness). Much smaller screen, bad for both reading (not wide enough jn protrair) and media viewing (black bars), despite being the same height.
I waited for s8+ then rumours came out and promptly bought MI Mix Exclusive. Don't care about camera so didn't have to wait for a worse more expensive phone...

People with Redmi come to your shop to fix their $100 phone and think that you know anything about the brand. I used Samsung J1 the other day, possibly the worst phone I have ever seen, I was not even sure if the screen had colour (it change hues in accordance to any slight angle change) ... but I'm not criticizing the whole brand just because I saw the worst of their phones.
Also you know nothing about MIUI. MIUI is not just a skin, it's a deep rework of the Android framework as a whole. It modifies the runtime, the memory management, the battery management. It *is* the OS of Xiaomi phones, the fact that it is based on Android is secondary. So obviously it gets MIUI upgrades, those are the ones that matter in a Xiaomi phone. If you compare a Marshamlow based and a Lollipop based MIUI 8 phone you won't see much difference because in Xiaomi phones the underlying android version is of secondary important. The code that comes from Xiaomi is so much more that *that's * what matters.
So who cares if it's android 6 or 7 based. What I care is that I get better battery than pixels , bugs fixed next week (at the most), dual apps, dual space, one handed mode, 3d touch (it can be enabled as Mi mix supports 3d touch). You know stuff that matters.

The problem with the current economy (which is a result of people's education quality as well) is that nobody likes to ease life by innovating and producing something REALLY useful. Everyone wants to be stable and waits their situation to get better (use newer phones, by newer cars etc.). Laziness is everywhere. This unbeliavable laziness affects even business life (resulting little innovation). I don't think anyone from Samsung & Apple is reading these comments written here. We are killing time for fun between our work. :)
I read all your comments below. I just couldn't buy MiMix due to camera. It is nice to see that you don't care as you have a mirrorless. In my trip to Paris (with my wife and kids) 2 weeks ago (which costed a total of 3 pieces of S8+ by the way) I used my Canon 50D & 10-22 (purchased 8 years ago) and Fuji F200 (I guess 6-7 years ago) and Note 2, 3, S5 (we all use Samsung but it is time to change). I didn't feel any single moment to upgrade anything. Everything was flawless. Last night while listening Spotify I took photo of a letter, converted to text by OCR and finished on Polaris 5 very quickly on my Note 2. Probably OCR conversion would finish in 3-5 seconds instead of 15 seconds in a new phone. Does it bother me? No! We are not cracking atoms with our phones. Those high Antutu scores are ridiculous. These phones are already much more powerful than necessary. But do they make the life easier? No. Battery lifes are the same. Batteries are sealed. SD cards dissappearing from many models/brands. Cameras are better but not in every model. Seeing multitasking as a very new native Android 7.0 feature really amazes me (I have been multitasking in my Note 2 for 4.5 years). While multitasking listening Spotify as well.
In short words, I see very stabilized innovation (we can't expect the same acceleration as 4-5 years ago) and very little benefit out of upgrading to a newer/newest products. Increments are very small. One needs to consider carefully before an upgrade.
If MiMix2 comes with a top of the line camera, I will buy it by the way (its ceramic body & display are awesome). XZ Premium, Nokia 9 is also in my list. Let's see what will come.

First, people type A come to the article and praise Samsung and they honestly love the Galaxy S8
Then, people type B come along and accuse type A to be paid by Samsung for praising the GS8, basically saying that people who support Samsung are stupid and fake -_-
I mean, you don't see people come to the comment section and said "What?! You love the OnePlus 3T? You MUST be paid by OnePlus then." do you? -_-

- LCD screen had a burned patch on it 3mm x 10mm noticible on grays & colours not blacks or whites.
- LCD blacks were pretty bright. I read a lot of books so this was no good.
- Settiing up google play was terrible. Even following tutorials on youtube.
- Camera was average. About on par with the GN4. Well behind the GN7.
Aside from that it was good. Wouldn't take a lot to be a good phone but i've ordered the S8+ to replace my GN4 (Had Mi Mix and GN7 in between).

YES. I never own a Xiaomi (as a personal device that is). Why should I? Like I said, customers come to my shop weekly to get their Xiaomi fix. Why should I invest money on a unreliable product? I'm not dumb enough to buy it. (even tho I never use it for my own personal use, I always use it at my shop. If you're not a phone shop worker, you can never get this)

I'm not sure why you're comparing Samsung flagship to different phones when your supposed to compare it to the S7 edge. Compare LG, HTC, Sony to their previous flagship and you will know that Samsung did a better job in making changes to their phone just like all their previous flagships.

On the other hand , a non-consumerist society (like every society before the 19th century), retains the same level of life and misery for untold millenia. People lived on average 45 years, broke their backs on the fields and had kings and queens squeezing them open.
Modern world has many problems (inequality, waste and animal cruelty are the main ones) but consumerism is definitely the way forwards as long as it is done correctly (i.e. add more things while also becoming *more* efficient on the process).
And the problem it has come from neglect, they're not features of the system (as it is evidenced in some societies where inequality, animal cruelty and waste are much more minimal , say the Scandinavian countries) so they're easily solvable too.

I went from iphone (the orignal), to HTC dream, to Nexus One, to Galaxy S2, to Note 2, to Note 4, to Galaxy S7 Edge.
Xiaomi Mi mix is the *best* experience. Fastest storage on a phone (600 MB/s sequential), most ram, battery practically lasts all day of heavy use and then some (4400 mah, duh, it makes sense), does not kill background apps like crazy (I'm looking at you S7 edge).
Only problem is the camera, but I don't care I have mirrorless. Also it's a conversation starter, everyobdy who looks at the phones ask "what is it?" . Very few have seen such an impressive looking phone.
Most of you haven't even seen a Xiaomi, much less owned one , yet you think you have opinion on the matter. There's a reason why the have the reputation they do as a *solid* budget company.
And since MiMix is not a budget phone they finally got a true flagship as well. It's head and shoulders above all else, even sold my tablet, that's how cool is it to read to your pocketable tablet.

Using this philosophy in technology I changed that quote to "Less innovation is more profit" which Samsung and Apple do successfully.
As customers, we mustn't trapped by the nonsense trend of replacing a running phone every 1-2 years.
I myself still use a Note 2 and apart from having a non OIS camera & 16GB RAM (which many 2017 phones still offers without getting shamed!) I have no concerns at all. It is loaded with lots of software and I don't feel any necessity to upgrade (probably I will do this year but with a 64GB and OIS equipped phone). I replaced the battery 4 times in 4.5 years (almost all phones offer non-replaceable batteries which is another trap to force you to upgrade your phone after it loses IP68 protection after the battery is replaced. I hope this nonsense trend ends but it is unlikely. As much as people keeps buying, nothing will happen. The whole world economy is based on a wild consumerism which is pumped by various media tools. People feels better by using a new phone. But unfortunately that doesn't make you have a better home and car. You just feel up to date artificially. You just feed the jaws of Samsung & Apple. ;)

I give you data and you ignore it. Why do you do this? Are you so determined to show that your fav company is the best?
S8 added the least amount of new things in its history and you praise it. If you're not on Samsung's payroll I don't know why.
As for features. A 2016 phone already *kills* it (faster, more battery, smaller bezels) in everything apart from the camera. Even its screen is better because it does not waste resources to light a QHD screen that can scarcely be shown to have a difference at 9 inches and beyond.
I expect most 2017 phones to kill it too. That's easily the weakest effort in the history of Samsung. Never before have they added so little between generations.
If you like that, expect S9 to be even more underwhelming and S10 practically *be* S9 ... and y'all would be praising it still.

Those are straight up lies that you spouting. You never owned a Xiaomi and it shows, it has one of the most faitful fanbase for a reason. They take care of their customers. Unlike Samsung that cease support after 18 months.

Weekly updates, way to unlock the bootloader w/t losing warranty, repair shops all over Europe.
Apart from camera this is the best phone I've ever owned , sold S7 Edge 'cause it got slow after 6 months of use, far lesser battery too! Stop spreading fud, it's not just the specs (which are excellent) above all is software support which -with Xiaomi- is ceaseless, nothing like Samsung that after 18 months forgets that even released a phone.
Samsung's $600 phone (galaxy alpha) only got one update, *one* shortly after release and that's it! Samsung, never again. A low end company with delusions of grandeur.

If you have a very conservative competitor who uses the exact same design for 4-5 years (iPhone), you become a company who just makes little evolutionary changes pinch by pinch (like Samsung does). IMHO S8+ specifications are not big enough to upgrade over an S7 Edge. It is not a Note.

And they opened the door for a new era of display designs, yes specs wise they improved maybe 20%, design wise they jumped 50%.
You should understand that Samsung focuses on something and they make it happen while other brands like Apple with same exact shirt every year same EVERYTHING.
Also LG, HTC they have no idea what they want, every time they come with a completely new design, LG's last year G5 is just a joke, removable battery, and LOL, failed hard, this year they went with another path, next year idk.

DrearyDepp, 11 Apr 2017I'm not trying to start a battle here, but here's a few fac... moreyou have rightly pointed out all the drawbacks of the s8 duo...and i have to agree that the s8 is not a worthwhile upgrade, atleast for someone who has an s7 edge already...however for discussion's sake(and since i needed to kill time)...we have our flagships from the all the giants announced..not counting iphone because its not android...we do have a suspected nokkia coming but thats it...lg may release a v series but we will get the next note to fight that battle...the dual cam afaik is a gimmick you are going to use once, at most..so is the slow mo..anyone who needs it more than that needs a professional cam...i personally never use the phone without headphones..i know..not healthy but...my s7 edge does power audiophile headphones nicely..so i expect the same with the s8...next the iris scanner...the note 7 had it first..but itd not there on the market anymore..so i doesnt count...and bixby is technically a waste of effort but its replacing something that was already there, and to be fair..neith siri nor cortana or the other ai have ever been completely satisfactory (i mean jarvis grade..yeah hoping for a lot) in terms of resolution the pentile matrix does have a disadvantage over traditional displays but thats mitigated in sub pixel rendering and QHD is the limit for the current size of phones..i mean i'm typing this on a 768p 15in screen..it looks sharp enough.
next coming to the processor..its like how intel does its ticks and tocks..this gen is for a smaller chipset, the next gen will probably bring more power..i'd say we are reaching the physical limit soon anyways..
so comparing the s8 to the s7 is not very useful. you can compare it to the other flagships of 2017 or the current phone you are haveing which i hope is an lg g4/z5/s6 because otherwise changing a phone every year is crazy...long rant...back to work hehe

1) Only 5 flagships have been released so far, so it's a bit premature to compare flagships features just yet. And talking about features, here's a few the S8 duo is missing: Dual camera setup, Ultra slo-mo camera and dual channel speakers, to name a few. Am I nitpicking? Yes, but for that price the S8 duo should have had at least one of the above mentioned features.
2) The S8/S8+, although brilliant phones, introduce no NEW features to speak of. Iris Scanner? Samsung's own Note7 had it first. Bixby? Google assistant came earlier (and let's not forget Siri). QHD+ resolution? The Z5 premium shipped with a 4K display. Note that I am talking about the resolution, not the quality of the display (which is generally top-notch in Samsung phones). High screen-to-body ratio? The Mi Mix and the Sharp Aquos had much higher ones.
3) Last but not the least - the specs. Yes, the Exynos 8895 is a beast, but the performance increase over Exynos 8890 (S7 Edge) is paltry compared to the performance increase of the Exynos 8890 over the Exynos 7420 (S6 Edge). Furthermore, the RAM has remained 4 GB which although sufficient for daily use, will cause problems while heavytasking using DeX and also doesn't make the device future-proof.
What I'm basically trying to say is that the S8 duo are brilliant phones, no doubt, but they're just not a substantial upgrade over the S7 duo, especially when you compare how much of an upgrade the S7 duo was over the S6 series. Anyways, just my opinion so feel free to correct me.
