AnonD-39937, 20 Apr 2017anything except Google Assistant is a waste of money, time ... moreI would consider google assistant as a waste too. Unless they made an offline AI. Every digital assistant I know wont work unless connected to the internet. Offline AI would be a game changer. If our smartphone AI have at least half of robot Pepper intelligence that would be more fun to talk with. Or even something with personalities like LG AKA.

They placed the phone in a heating chamber of 50 degree celsius. That would be a proper test simulating overheating of the phone instead of burning it with direct flame.

Someone Else, 20 Apr 2017Like Zack said in the video: "I put it through a few years ... moreEvery Zack does is awesome and correct 99% of the time. But the lighter test doesn't really simulate years of abuse in a few minutes, unless you work near a furnace :P.

Even GSMArena calls the flame test meaningless. Here's the link:

That was the purpose of the burn test, as well as the scratch and bend test.

Someone Else, 19 Apr 2017The flame test was used for testing dead pixels and the ove... moreYeah, but my question is what's the purpose of the flame test in a practical view-point. So far, we have found out that after 10 seconds of direct flame, LCD's sometimes discolour permanently but mostly switch off before recovering fine. As for AMOLED's, they usually get a permanent white discoloration after 10 seconds of open flame. And true, the S8 seems to be a champ in this regards, resisting change upto 30 seconds.

But how is the flame test useful in a practical stand-point? I mean do you know any case where the screen pixels got damaged and turned off due to long-term use or under intense, heavy loads? No amount of heavy usage can make the screen become as hot as 10 seconds of direct flame. It seems like a poor test to simulate any kind of practical scenario....

AnonD-25255, 20 Apr 2017Flame test is important to know how screen will survive in ... moreI really don't think any amount of heavy usage can lead to the screen being as hot as exposed to 10 seconds of direct flame. No matter how heavy you use you can always touch it with your finger, but can you keep your fingers in direct flame for 10 seconds?

I mean has anyone experienced their pixels being turned off (i.e. going dead) during heavy usage?

Even Sharp already introduced their own AI named EMOP for their Aquos R phone. I wont be surprised if all the major player doing this.

If you put your screen under the extreme sunlight heat, flame test will be very much appreciated as the pixels of your screen can be affected. My friend left his S5 inside his car for about an hour with the sunlight shining directly on the screen of the phone. He picked it up afterwards and noticed a white spot on the screen where the sunlight is shining at
