Anonymous, 26 Apr 2017S8 lol What a joke IPhone is king S8 gets spanked ... moreS8 is even spanked by $400 chinese phones. Which is even more comical (3T kills S8 in most online speed tests already, Samsung seriously dropped the ball with their $900 phone)

Royan, 26 Apr 2017Whatva chipset, but 70% iPhone buyers doesn't care about th... moreBelieve me they do care that their phone is snappy. Many would try androids , see how slow they are by comparison and go back to iOS. Android phones have dropped the ball by trusting those incompetent Qualcomm engineers, they cannot add more than 10% performance gains each year.
Apple -on the other hand- is marching to eating Intel's launch if they continue that way (if they continue as such, their 2019 chip would be as powerful as a desktop i7 and then Apple will start using SoCs to their computers as well).

AnonD-647900, 26 Apr 2017"Apple's focus on creating the most powerful mobile chipset... moreGeekbench measures raw performance, optimization hardly enters to it. You can try this as an experiment: try to run Geekbench on different android roms (on phones), or on different OSes (on PCs), you will get pretty much the same results, because you get what is hard coded for the chip to give.
ios or not that *is* the power of A11 and if Apple decides to use it to MacOS (by creating ARM based MacOS) it would "score" the same. Also it's not that impressive, only 30% faster than A10. A10 was 40% faster than A9

Anonymous, 26 Apr 2017Have tou heard about speed tests? The s8 is already quiet f... moreThey do this by cheating mostly. By killing most background processes any OS would snappy as very few things go on on IOS at any given moment. Not only that but background apps (apps you used a little/long time ago) use next to no resources allowing dozen of bacKG round apps that never reload on iphone. Put the two together and it explains most of the snappiness.
Having said that, if their hardware get sooo much seperation from android's they may consider dropping some of the cheating. For example start allowing more "backgrounding" and still destroy android phones. In which case hats off, androids makers should had never trust a single company for all their processor needs (qualcomm), they are obviously abusing their position and hold android phones back at this point. They could hardly add 10% per core performance this generation around, for example.

I think this is a sign that consumers should keep their phone for a minimum of THREE years before upgrading again. It is a negligible from year to year. The bored ones who simply get bored with phones are like the same type who buys new shoes every few months. They just want to shop and spend their cash on something.
Smartphone tech have hit a plateau similar to video game consoles. I remember we used to get 5-year update cycles with consoles. Now they can last 7-8 years sans the mid-cycle update. The novelty of camping out for a PS2 or PS3 was lost once the smartphone revolution began. Now people will lose interest in buying newer phones too.
With last year's flagships that I barely got from 1-2 months ago, I think they should remain relevant and run decent for the rest of this decade. I really don't need to get a Nokia 9 or Pixel 3. My current ones can last up to 2020. My Note 3 and Mi 3 are near 4-yr old phones and they still work fine. Most of the urge of buying phones we don't really need is from visiting sites like this one or owning something new again.

It's been confirmed to be fake by people from Geekbench.
Not really surprising when you consider Apple's normal release schedule.

iOS is so lame, I bet Steve Wozniak started using Android when first released since he is also a tinkerer. He was taking photos in Googleplex when he got a Galaxy Nexus.
OS X is so much more functional than iOS, I feel bad for the people who only own Apple products that is only iPhone or whatever iDevice and have to be stuck using iTunes to move files around.
Still on El Capitan on my MacBook Air and ZERO issues. It doesn't annoy me to update. Macs last like 5-10 years . I see PowerBook G4 still being relevant now. Apple makes far better laptops than gimmicky smartphones.
For $200, that's a great buy for a Xiaomi Mi 5. I got my Mi 3 for $240 back in July 2014, and it still is smooth after several software updates. On the other hand with Samsung, 0.5x animation and Nova Prime won't eliminate the lag especially typing with palm rejections and less sensitive touchscreen. I feel taken back to resistive screens and laggy UI like the Nokia N97.

Anonymous, 26 Apr 2017and all this for an 2011 720p screen ? ridiculous Do you even read? Its not 720p.
"iPhone 8 will come with a screen resolution of 2,800x1,242, which makes for an incredibly odd 20.2:9 or 2.25:1 aspect ratio."

To me, both Apple and Samsung are lame. Apple has smooth software but it is restrictive and boring. Samsung has good hardware features like camera and display but crap software. But we live in an idiocracy where stupidity sells as long as it looks good and has cool marketing.
I don't care who beats who just like I didn't care who won the U.S. Election last year. I am happy with my underdogs. A scrappy bunch. Dumb people can go for Apple or Samsung because they are popular and that is all they see. Real phone connoisseurs are happy with their Google Pixel, Sony Xperia, LG G or V, OnePlus, Huawei P or Mate, or whatever that is better to them.
I have no interest in this iPhone Edition or 8 anymore after seeing that leaked prototype photo. I don't like bezel-less sides, curved display, and glass rears. I also don't like iOS either. My next phone could be a Nokia 9 or OnePlus 5 this year. Maybe even Sony since I never owned an Xperia before. Then will replace my Pixel for a Pixel 3 next year. Apple and Samsung can go cater to the foolish with the shallow personality.
Typing on my gold LG G3 Beat and surprisingly, it isn't that laggy or annoying than my S7 edge. Top 3 laggy among my 9 phones thanks to the skin, SD400, and 1gb RAM, but nomore laggy than my S7 edge or HTC One M7. Not bad, LG. And never experienced a bootloop either with it after two years. Just waiting on the OnePlus 5 or Nokia flagship to make it a great third wheel because S7 edge or S8 can go suck a monkey's uncle. Lagcity.

WTFDYJS, 26 Apr 2017I'm still working on getting my Engineers degree or also kn... moreI doubt it. Bachelor of science (Bsc) and Engineering (Beng) are two different faculties. As someone who actually studies engineering, I can already tell you that Apple has good tech and that their Ax range of CPUs has always been in a league of its own.
However, I will never buy any of their tech nor recommend it to most people (depends on what they plan to do with it). It is overpriced, locks you into a more expensive ecosystem of costs (cables, adapters, servicing, software, only works with other iCrap), and worst of all for engineers - you can't tinker with it. Want to do the thing? Well f*ck you, you can't. I run El Capitan, Windows 10 and Fedora/Ubuntu on my PC, and even those are modified to work for me (bots, servers, looks, widgets, cloud integration, audio, etc). I hate that I can't get an iPhone to do what I want, and even when I can I have no peace of mind knowing I can't get it to work if a new problem arises that I want to fix.
And hey good phones are cheap - I bought my Xiaomi Mi5 last year for $200 and will keep it another 18 months or so.

It's like there is a competition for dumb tradition resolution
LG started it
Samsung beat it
And now Apple is gonna make record for having the most awkward and dumb resolution!!!
