Hopefully we will finally get some information about the Nokia 7/8 and whether they'll be using this chipset.

AnonD-646953, 03 May 2017you again ..... study English before posting.I don't think people who possess any knowledge (which somehow counts you off) regarding what I whose talking about will have such a hard time understanding what I wrote despite of my bad English. On the other hand fun loving nobs like you won't learn anything no matter which language I use.

      study English before posting.

AnonD-646953, 03 May 2017Yes, you're right in most terms. Kryo280 is actually an A7... moreWell to set it all up into the right light; integer performance of ARM A72-A73 core's is about 80% faster than on A53's, it's essential in starting apps & scales bad in MP. The floating point operations are important on mobile OS as they are widely & mostly used for multimedia instructions including jpeg and PNG. They are either executed on VFP block or on NEON SIMD's all do NEON doesn't bring any noticeable gains any more compared to VFP especially on newer ARM cores but they still are better choices regarding efficiency. Floating point operations scale rather good in MP. The performance difference between the A53 & A72 per MHz in floating point operations is only 12%. Which gets us to a conclusion how it's much better to employ A53 for such operations & save 50~65% power. It's evident how first generation Kryo had costume designed VFP block & it's beyond common sense why Qualcomm didn't integrate those in Kryo 280 core's. It's also evident how first generation whose based on A57 ARM design & whose even less efficient than A57 while Kryo 280 should be based on A73 which we can't really fully confirm yet nor what blocks & subs are semi modified. One thing is certain A73 isn't nor so efficient nor fast as ARM would love & claimed & certainly aren't much cheaper to produce thanks to larger L1 & L2 caches. Think QC again falls on engineering task regarding S835 & probably S660 if the small cluster doesn't employ A53's or A35's that are same regarding floating point performance as A53's but more power efficient (claimed 25%) wile a step back to A7 lv of integer performance. Will be interesting to see what will ARM do in the future regarding SIMD blocks as the one's currently employed on Mali G71 are much more capable & would be good strategy to develop SIMD as a shared optional self stand multi purpose block rather then CPU or GPU part. In the mean time Intel is mostly doing the same with evolving of its AVX extension (new revisions suitable for more data types including convolution matrix & cetera).

That makes it more powerful than 820 in terms of cpu isn't it?

In addition geekbench4 is doing a test using existing core libraries to perform the daily usage of the cpu.
It means, their test is held in a high level operations.
running a test in a high-level prevent us from learning "what kind of operation was executed strongly, and what is not".
And when you run a test in a higher level, you can also modify the scoring algorithm (the rate of the score)more easily.

And remember when geekbench update their ver from 3 to 4, it was just a couple of weeks after kryo appeared, and kryo's score was very high in ver3 but they modify the rate of scoring in ver4.

This kind of modify can be done also in "int sector" too.

Even the author of gsmarena was saying "look at the geekbench3; the king of benchmark-app".

its sad seeing the big differrence between flagship and midrange performance , 650 kind of have fixed this gap but OEMs only used them for high midrange that very close to pricing to flagships and still ignored midrange segment , lg even sold their g5 with 650 in some countries .

good thing that OP , Xiaomi phones exist . where u can get a flagship with midrange price .

Kryo280 is actually an A73 and it's efficiency is much more better than other big cores as I said. And kryo's FP performance was like beast.
But kryo was absolutely not weak in int performance. I made a benchmark app to test several type of operations, and the result was not as it claimed at all.

Check the result of my "Integer-complex-operation-test"; http://z4ck.tk/chart.html

And test with your device if you like.

Why is the invitation in chinese?

I made some test. Most graphical intense games are using up to 4 cores clocled up up 1.5Ghz to run. While using 256-500MB RAM. GPU no more powerfull than Mali-860MP2 Now tell me. Why the hell you would want 8 cores at 2.2 or 6 or 10 core chips with 4GB RAM phones or so OR better GPU than lets say Adreno 505?!?!?!

Anonymous, 03 May 2017MY SD625 Feels outdated :/Why. You have more than enough power and it's #1 power efficient chip build on still new 14nm... 80% of phones are with socs worse than yours and more outdated. Your GPU is super powerfull with DX11 support. This soc will be up to date in at least next few years.

From what I've seen, chipsets like 62x or 65x usually ships with fullHD displays, where in graphics intensive games perform worse than 616 on HD displays. So there is a big gap between these and flagships. Will 660 correct this ?

Kryo cores on the 820/821 had strong FP but weak Int performance. Its Int performance was actually worse than A57.
A73 sacrifices a little bit of performance in some workloads compared to A72 but increases efficiency.

With all that being said, I don't think there's any official IPC numbers but its IPC is at worst marginally lower than A72 but the efficiency increase makes up for it and then some. Kryo was undoubtedly a bad architecture, otherwise Qualcomm wouldn't have ditched it for ARM designs. It seems FP performance isn't as vital for mobile workloads, so switching not only gained higher performance but better efficiency.

820 has 23% higher FP IPC than 835 but 835 has 22% higher Int IPC than 820 - just to put the numbers out there.
