Leaked OnePlus 5 screenshot points at 8GB RAM

05 May 2017
We're still on the fence whether we believe it - OnePlus 3T already has more RAM than early 2017 flagships.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T are nice phones. And the OnePlus 5 sounds promising (although the price is starting to inch out of the flagship killer category into the just another flagship category).

But the thing that OnePlus really needs to do (has been needing to do for a long time) is properly certify their phones for use with VoLTE on all carriers and make them work with things like T-Mobile's wifi calling.

If a brand new phone is out of the box not fully compatible with the carrier networks it is expected to work on, it is on some level irrelevant how many other great features the phone has or what the price is.

Its not about number of gb of ram.
Its about mobile SoC, designed for a mobile platform that has to equalize resource/benefit parameters of mobile, all depending on passive energy source battery.

You could try adding an active energy source for an active SoC cooler on a mobile device, just like it is on a desktop computer, but it would deny the whole idea of mobile tech.
Smartphone is not a desktop computer, and never will be.

Maybe then 6 gb, let alone 8 gb, will be actually usable or in any way reasonable on a smartphone.
      Until then, its just nonsense.
Unusable dead weight for marketing purpose only.

My 4 year old tablet is abandoned by Samsung but still getting upgrades . That's one of the main points of open source ... Who knew?

Tann Hauser, 06 May 2017Going defensive now? You can talk all around the facts al... moreHaha, I just greenify the apps that cause wakelocks (there are only few). I have never ever have any problem with background apps, only noobs do.

Also I'm not deflecting, I just gave you a video showing OnePlus 3T destroying each and every android. Sadly the C4etech's video showing Sony phones being *eviscerated* are no longer online so that's the most relevant I can get.

Also ram is not just about background apps. You'd see ram to be continuously lost over many days of use even as you clean all your apps. A lot is used by the android framework, by services and pretty much anything that needs ram owning to a smoother existence.

8GB phones would be faster than 6GB phones, I'm sure of it!

You can talk all around the facts all you want, with absolutely unrelated yt stuff...
              But,
In the end XZs proves 6gb doesnt have any advance over 4gb if software utilised properly.

And 6 gb if utilised in all, overheats the phone, drains battery like a monster, and causes serious SoC throttling on todays android phones, and future some most certainly.
So even OnePlus decided to keep the 20 app limit, that ll use 3 gb most, to prevent these issues.

But, Glad to see you living in some other reality.

Good luck with actually using incoming 8 gb on phones, it ll most likely kill the battery, melt the SoC, and seriously interfer with performance if all used.
Enjoy your 8gb on a phone with passive energy source nonsense.

It only loses to iPhone but that's because the iphone did the encoding much faster.

It's a fantasy to say that ram doesn't matter. You just saw a yesteryear phone destroy this year's flagship all with ram alone (holding more assets in memory).

                You have no excuses now.

S6 lacked in ram amount (Zenfone 2 and Oneplus 2 had 4GB), ram management (most brands manage it better than Samsung), battery life (very low for a flagship) and its camera was losing to LG G4. It also lacked waterproofing and micro SD slot.

It was a bad phone that sold the least of all S phones of late, yet reviews would praise it. That's why you should pay attention to YouTube for performance, to forums for battery life and DxO mark for camera performance.

Two phones with the same review score one can be very bad and another excellent. Also raw specs are not enough either . Just keep this rule (YouTube for performance, forums for battery life and DxO mark for camera) and you'd make no mistake again.

There were a couple of proper speedtests showing Sony lagging behind, unfortunately most are taken down and we only have the biased ones.

I hopes this gen we'll get some proper Sony speedtests, seeing Sony be *destroyed* once again.

Sony lost because of the giant bezels, the low performance, the small battery for exorbitant prices. Nobody cares about Sony at this point apart from her fanboys ... Soon Sony mobile division will shut down and this noise will go away.
