Leaked OnePlus 5 screenshot points at 8GB RAM

We're still on the fence whether we believe it - OnePlus 3T already has more RAM than early 2017 flagships.

AnonD-152282, 06 May 2017See I am not an expert of all these things but I must admit... moreAndroid multi tasking is excellent. Samsung is a very bad android maker. If you buy low quality you will have low quality.

Buy Google, Sony or OnePlus.

Don't pay attention to reviews either, they're paid for. Search for youtube videos to see the real performance.

OnePlus 3T is faster and cheaper and iphone SE. It breaks my heart that all you knew about Android came through Samsung. Samsung is trash, everybody in the know knows this...

See I am not an expert of all these things but I must admit that despite of having decent amount of ram Android multitasking is really bad, I used to have a S6 edge with 3GB ram, I use facebbok app lots of time and I whenever I leave app, even for couples of seconds, it refreshes itself and shows me fresh news feed irrespective of what I was browsing. This thing really irritate me, plus after 2-3 days of usage my phone became bit laggy and to I often restart my phone to get rid of that.
Now I am iPhone SE user and this one is really good in multitasking and also never felt any lag, no matter how many apps I run in background. Its ram is only 2GB, still it handles apps so well.
I think Android phones run on different types of programming and no matter how much ram you provide, these phones get slow after some days and also perform bad in multitasking.

-I've been waiting trillions of centuries for you to explain, but how is the 3T with 6GB of RAM still has the tendency to reload a very basic and light app, while the XZs with 4GB of RAM can do it flawlessly without the extra 2GB RAM?

Obviously you won't answer, 'cause the only answer to that is that OnePlus isn't as good as Sony in terms of software control. Not even Google themselves with the Pixel phones can beat Sony's semi-flagship phone this year.

And to add to your general information, Android O will be an audio-focused OS with Sony's audio features that have been present since years of Xperia flagships. With that, Samsung, LG, Google, HTC, etc. Can finally enjoy a stunning audio quality Sony has been having all these years already.
Another thing to note is that Sony Mobile Communications contributed 30 feature enhancements and 250 bug fixes for Google's own OS

Its all about marketing. Oneplus really have poor optimisation when it comes to their smartphones.
I have both S7 and Honor 8 with only 4gb of ram and my friends OP3 with 6gb of ram can't even keep up on my Honor 8.
What Huawei previously said was true. 4gb of ram is enough. All you need was a well built optimized software. Even the latest S8 remains on 4gb of ram.
Poor OnePlus. They can't even update on time their previous flagships phone.

AnonD-336923, 05 May 2017I'd rather have 1-2 GB of RAM but an optimized operating sy... moreThere are studies showing that performance extracted from optimization is 10 times as expensive as simply adding the hardware.

These studies were done in early 90s, then again in late 00s. It is simply not worth it. If a company has the money to basically rewrite android , they have the money to keep it the same and just add 10 times the hardware.

Optimization would matter when Moore's law will die. Until then it's simply cheaper to up the hardware and not doing so you keep back the market and the consumers back

I read that the average IQ of Chinese is greater than the rest of the world. Maybe that's why Chinese phones that sell in China only advance the important things (ram, battery, screen size) and find secondary, secondary things like resolution (we hit a quality plateau 3 years ago) aspect ratio (any longer and you're getting black screens).

The people that troll is the one that don't want to understand how hugely important that is. They think that using the band more would simply have no adverse consequences to their long term use. I mean the band is 100 to!es slower than ram ... But OK.

Windows users should finally stop commenting about ram. Ram works notning like it works on windows. They stop the only good trend in the industry (ram is probably the only thing that no matter how much you add you always get a faster phone)

Tann Hauser, 05 May 2017https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jAhTrpA3idw Disaproved. Ridiculous. Nobody uses so few apps over the purse of a week. Also OnePlus 3T keeps the apps longer in memory, so you actually get better multitasking in the long run, but also better day to day performance.

Look at C4etech tests to see certain Sonys being smoked. The reason is that c4etech simulates a week use (with much more apps) not just a day's use. You don't own a phone for a day and then give it away.

I'd rather have 1-2 GB of RAM but an optimized operating system, than a un-optimized android phone that has 6 or 8 GB of RAM but can't keep 5-6 apps open in working memory.

Some costumers need hardware on steroids, but some costumers need fluent software

I don't get why you need too much RAM in your phone. You can spin it all you want, but it seems there is no direct benefit to the consumer since the future proof feature will stop the moment the SoC is not getting more official updates and support.

It's more a publicity matter than a technical one, more RAM sounds appealing to the regular consumer. It happen before in the times of GHz wars from the PC in early 2000's and it looks will happen again with the RAM stuff for smartphones.

lacp, 05 May 2017I don't see any difference in performance. It's irrelevant ... moreDid I say it has advantage overall?
                            No.
But in multitask it obviously does.
So conclude, 4gb vs 6 gb.
Has 6 gb really any advantage over 4 gb?
                            Nope.
Will 8 gb have any advantage?
                            Nope.

Oneplus 3t have a very average battery life, no matter how fast charging is charging outlet may not be available everywhere. Keeping thin profile packing qhd screen, 8gb ram will be disaster. 6gb ram was more than enough, I hope oneplus this year concentrate more on camera and battery.

tests wins the OP3T in others wins the Xony Xperia XZs. I think that the OP3T won more tests of performance than the Xperia XZs. For that you have no reason saying that the XZs is superior. The OP3T has a slight advantage in the chipset which is the Snapdragon 821.
