Leaked OnePlus 5 screenshot points at 8GB RAM

We're still on the fence whether we believe it - OnePlus 3T already has more RAM than early 2017 flagships.

Anonymous, 05 May 2017Lol at the lies. First smoothness != speed, that's just ... moreOh you ve gone out of turf here, trolling Sony now.
The discussion is about the need of 8 gb ram, or even 6 gb ram.
And that Sony you bashed unnecessarily now, just proved the point with its XZs, 4 gb ram managment performing better than 6 gb on OP3T.
I dont see 2gb extra ram worth in OP3T there in any way, let alone 4 gb. It does not show.

Well, at least it'll be future proofed for a decade with 8 gigs of RAM. Oh, don't you doubt that it'll be supported by custom ROM's until then

Good to hear, my next smartphone could possibly have as much RAM as a gaming laptop and even run dual-boot with Windows 10(who knows?!). :)

2u2, 05 May 2017If so then why companies add more ram to their flagships ar... moreIts a simple answer really.
        To sell.
... to people who think it somehow matters.
I have no doubt next year some will put 12 gb ram in a phone.
Will that suffice some peoples needs?
Maybe better wait for 2019 then, and get 16 gb ram phones.
        Ridiculous.
Nonsens that adds only 5g of weight, and nothing else.
Guess they have to add anything to sell, when out of new tech ideas.

8gb ram so that people who can't afford a computer can play two different games in split screen mode by two people.

SmartPhonesFan, 05 May 2017such gimmick more n more RAMsLiterally everything else is a gimmick (SoCs are never maxed these days, nand storage speeds are barely utilized). Basically ram is the only thing that matters. So you are exactly wrong.

Take Galaxy S3. The International version (1GB of ram) is unusable, the American version (2gb) is usable to this day.

Third, Sony? Seriously? These are the guys with volumetrically biggest phone for the screen size and still can't fit a decent sized battery in. They have some of the worst hardware engineers in the world ... Talking about (space) optimization.

Anonymous, 05 May 2017Actually it's not just about multitasking. It's about a smo... moreAbout smooth experience, while having the customizations on top
OnePlus needed to stay stock with OS to keep the performance smooth and fluid, and stable too, while Sony can put a skin and optimize it well to not hog the hardware and make annoying performance issues caused by software

Let's not say it isn't about great performance, but RAM management is a big factor of a great performance. Samsung flagships of 2015 (S6/S6 Edge/S6 Edge+/Note 5) kill the apps in the background to maintain their optimum performance.
Sony keeps those apps running without a sign of slowing down or hiccups.

What online test did Sony lost? 'Cause the only Sony phones I know that lose to others are the mid rangers, but ONLY against to proper flagships, but no mid ranger has defeated Sony yet, and so does their flagship and semi-flagship. You rely on C4ETech's test only knowing Indians hate anything Sony, while you don't open your mind and do much more searching and find out the real Sony. Phone Battles shows a good example of an unbiased test. Every single speed tests faced by the XZs often ended up it being the winner, and it vs 3T is no different. 3T was slightly faster on games, but remember the differences:
                        SD820 vs SD821
                        4GB RAM vs 6GB RAM
                        eMMC 5.1 vs UFS 2.0

But I want you to just watch it instead of talking
I think you're the one needing to educate here - RAM Management isn't everything, but doesn't mean it doesn't matter, because the purpose of RAM is to keep everything running while doing other stuff, and with RAM, more always means better

If somebody offered to swap, I'd get XZs for its super slo-mo and reliability.

I got 3T just because of its great cost-performance with clean UI, and happy with this. Superb phone anyway
