Key to winning market share is ubiquity and strong mindshare persuasion.And by that I don't mean "Windows?That thing that runs on most PCs/laptops?" kind of mentality.That was the singular ultimate mistake in Windows Mobile's past.Banking on the "Windows" **quoting fingers** brand in year 2011 where you have to fluidly balance both consumer and enterprise strats down to a tee is NOT a good idea at all.Apparently there's this Fortune magazine writer who believes that the latest Microsoft-Nokia coup can spell big wonders to usurp RIM's BB dominance on the enterprise front.I laughed.Essentially as arguable as the rest of us would like to look at what's going on with Nokia right now, that's like telling a longtime global cellphone market leader "Hey now that you have new OS deal why don't you just stop doing what you've done so well and bring us better BBs?".It's mind boggling even if this sounds a bit exaggerated.
Let's begin by roughly analysing WP7's base hardware reqs vs. device/phone manufacturers uptake vs. possible factors.How many of you here (regardless if you're either an Android, iOS or Symbian user(s)) think that it's weird discounting Nokia out of loop, that the top 3 Asian /global; HTC, Samsung and LG minimized their WP7 exposure to just some select models? I know I feel the same way.
It's the usual questions such as "Why am I not seeing lower-upper midrange priced WP7 phones?" or "Hey the specs aren't bad but how come MS + >name the manufacturer here< are having troubles at rolling updates out on just a few models?" AND the probably most for outside of NA market; "My carrier's not putting other than company X's WP7 phone on contract?Where are the others?".Good luck telling CIOs/CTOs and crackberry execs to move their comm systems.Will it be "free"? ;p
Compounded by that if even minor hiccup of WP7's updates' rollout especially, that has already dented the much valuable mindshare whether it's justified or not.
Microsoft can't just sit by thinking "OK now that we have Nokia as our "OFFICIAL" WP7 phone brand we can tell HTC, Samsung and LG to suck it because Nokia can stress test the updates 1st and they're top priority now.If those 3 can't keep up we don't have to care because we have the big dog in OUR yard now." That's what happened to Danger and Kin projects and voila the results were?

If it actually happen it's a good news. More competition is always good news. I say may the best win. I have an Android currently and I love it so far. At the same time WP7 is looking to be interesting. Before Android I'm actually a loyal Windows Mobile person. Who knows, when WP7 matures, it may be time to go Microsoft again?

Android is a massive dissappointment. I have bought and tried 3 top of the line 1GHz Droids (Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson X10, HTC HD Desire) and reverted back to my E72. Even tried exchange units and so have gone through 5 units in total. Battery life is pathetic if you use the device, expect 2-3 hours. often wont make or recieve calls. Bluetooth and wireless connections erratic. Some units lagged and even hung. Seems Android is more of a fashion statement than a serious phone HD.

Windows Phone 7 will never be second, it will never pass beyond the iOS and even BB OS, unless Microsoft solves the following problems:
i) Fully functional and easy to use multi-tasking like the iOS
ii) Replace the $0.00 with "free" on marketplace
iii) Allows the lower-end phones to use WP7
Plus, the Gartner's analysis is pointless as u guys agreed.

Why no one think of webOS consider Hp's support. Also moto is developing their OS. I do think the 3.3% market share for othe system is too small. Reasonable scale should be 5%. although no matter 5% or 3.3% is too small in compare with others major player, 3.3% estimation is a bit too aggressive.

HP-Palm WebOS has no prospect - no matter how good it would be.
The same goes for Blackberry OS.
Bada, Symbian, MeeGO have no prospect at all.
Only Apple has the talent which allows it to be a unique and seperate platform - all others needs to choose between Android and WinPhone. And I can't guess whether Apple would be able to continue in that way, without Steve Jobs...
Android and WinPhone would be more common that iOS because there would be much more devices having them.

Apple need to release at least 2 more models per year (3 models total):
1 - the same segmant like today
2 - the same as #1, but with a side-sliding qwerty
3 - a smaller+cheaper version of #1
Apple needs more diversity for more segments of the market. This is the only way for them to grow!

First of all most of android phones is touch .. many people is not touch screen fan .. symbian is all kind os .. i will stuck with my Nokia E5 :)

may be its true. I am using n82 now. I think nokia's hardware is unique and definately best in world. But of course software is poor. Android is growing up very fast. I wish i had firefox too on my symbian mobile.

OK, Android rules until 2015. Everyone expected that. But for WP7 to be "queen" or no2. No way. Hell, WP7 can't even be ringbearer, for crying out loud.
Reasons: 1) WP7 has no name for itself until now, (2) few phones support WP7, only Nokia is jumping in this bandwagon created by Elop, (3) WP7 is half-baked still, and needs more "tech" to compete with the likes of Android, and (4) No "original" service or content, except Bing, thus less attraction to switch to it.
Perhaps the only call to fame of WP7 is its future integration with XBox gaming platform, and its inclusion of free Mobile Office (word, excel, etc.) in its OS. Pretty lame offering, if you are (like me) not so much into gaming or if you already have THINKFREE or DOCS TO GO.
I think iOS will step up (apple has tricks up its sleeves), RIM will consolidate ("borrow" Android market concept), and Nokia will stay put but not grow (Nokia is an aging brand, so it will prioritize status quo over growth)...

and lets face it iOS apps are by far the best atm
its like saying the n8 isnt a very good cameraphone without its 12mp camera. well it has it so it doesnt matter lol
