Yes, Operating System optimization can help to save some CPU or RAM resources, but only OS optimization can't solve everything. In our days even with optimized Operating System, you still need powerful CPU if you want to use latest features.
For example NOKIA fans says that Symbian is optimized OS, but as we can see even with optimized OS, NOKIA phones are still very laggy when you are watching YouTube or using navigation (loading maps). Why? Because even with optimized OS 680 MHz isn't inaf!
P.S. Sorry if that sounds like I have something against NOKIA or Symbian, no I'm not. This is only my opinion.

One thing is for sure, Nokia/Symbian is unbeatable on battery life. What's the point with all the Android smartphones when they all just last less than 24 hours on a charge.
The E6 seems to break new grounds. Even the E72 was superb already.

Symbian definitely is losing users whether you like it or not. Just because you're a fan and your friends are fans so maybe you don't see as many Android user or iOS users, but numbers don't lie. Android users are increasing at an extremely fast rate and as long as everyone uses Google search engine and are able to make the connection to Android it's not gonna slow down the growth rate. As long as Steve Jobs is advertising for Apple, people will continue to buy Apple.
Unfortunately for Symbian, the mass public wants Android and iOS more and more and Symbian's losing popularity. It may be a good OS, but it's getting less popular and that means there will be less and less support for it over time. They can keep pumping these updates on Symbian but, I simply don't think Symbian has it that it could turn customers around to purchase it over an Android or an iPhone mostly due to weaker hardware. Again, it's all about how many customers they can win so if Nokia sees that there isn't an increase in Symbian users, they'll obviously drop it. Good luck to Symbian.

I've found the N8 to be very user friendly once set up. It only takes a little brain power to customise it nicely. You can even fill the front screen up with more icons, so that you can get to more apps, faster.
I don't think Symbian is going to go away any time soon now. It's too widespread, and if the updates proves to be popular, then expect Nokia to make a U-turn.
WP 7 Nokia phones will end up like the Androids. Huge processors and larger screens, whilst the more efficient Symbian will cater for less energy hungry devices.

Most of the thing you mentioned android does well...and even better on some low levels phones. My X1 Mini Pro does everything you need of him..So I think you comment is out of line here
And again the war is starting.iOS vs Android vs Symbian...Let's talk about the phones shall we? The OS is really a matter of personal choice.Yes one OS is better the the later, but some people don't mind such things.
I think that Nokia is doing a pretty good job with there phones.I really liked the X7 and it's nice to see that there will be a update rolling out soon.Maybe it's time for Nokia to shine again?

I am SO dissapointed at Nokia .I was always hoping for the best, but...
Firstly, wheres the dual core processors and true zoom camera we were were promised!!!??? Yes, Symbian fan boys dont start with your battery life problems and "it don't need it" ! It does!
nHD display? WTF ! Thats two years behind the rest...It was fine on the 3.2inch of my OLD Nokia 5800, but now this is just bad...(you to E7)
Fixed Focus? OMG this is such a joke! They said it costs just as much as AF, but its a smaller module so slimmer phones, and quicker pics, but image quality on my C7 sucks! You have to take out atleast 5 photos to get a decent one...of course it has its moments and takes out gorgeuos shots, but thats like 1 in every 20 ! And slimmer phones? The X7 is under 12mm,and the E6 is 10.5mm but the E72 was 10mm and the Galaxy S2 is about 8.5mm, and it HAS AF !
And how can people call this a multimedia phone when it doesnt have an HDMI port, or the 4 speakers we were expecting? And Symbian Anna, you just an old women who got plastic OS surgery...You still that epic fail who cant please all those Android/Windows lovers, because you slow, look ugly, and the list will go on and on....
Urg, me, ex Nokia fanboy, still has hopes for Windows phone 7...but only when it gets rid of those nasty limitations...as for now, im going to make the move to Android...Samsung Galaxy S2, and i cant wait!

im just saying symbian does not deserve so much animosity. it has flaws, but lets see what the update brings...

AnonD-3575, 12 Apr 2011havent you noticed the update part?
can you really compare... moreThat does not apply. Apple have only 2 models being sold right now and they are holding their own against the hordes of Android devices while Nokia is losing quarter after quarter. Anyways, we agreed to disagree and this is not going to get the two of us anywhere.
I do agree with you on EDoF though. A lot of misconception is going around but the truth is that it's better than full focus and it's good enough for the great majority of people out there. Anything from 2 ft to infinity is great on EDoF and it's not like people always do macro on their cellphones.

i just can't understand the point of finnish fanboys around here. For phones of this price range it is not about what they can do but how they can do...and if battery life is all you care about than go and purchase a dirt company phone, some even offer a month's standby time!!!
And if you are spending this much of money on a phone, you must be having enough learning ability to learn android or iOS...
