I think they should have go with numeric update. Galaxy Note 7.5 - that is hard to make fun off. Except Galaxy Note w/7.5 seconds bomb timer ... No, they could not choose well. :-D

Samsung should totally be abandoning the Note7 name already! These will still not be allowed on the aircraft! Had they started creating the Note8 as soon as the Note7 explosion issue died out, Note8 could've went on sale together in a timely manner with S8.
Bury the Note7 already, don't use it's chassis and body anymore, and make it up to your loyal customers by creating a more amazing Note8.

If Samsung is going to add/upgrade extra features from original note 7 then all the more reason Samsung is definitely copying Apple's marketing scheme. Iphone SE also had upgraded specs with new SOC, camera from iphone 6s & still receiving regular ios updates.
personally i think this is a good thing for Samsung, but what makes me happy is how the mindless fanboys bashing Apple now have to eat their own words.
