Nokia 9 poses for live shots: dual 13MP camera, 5.3" QHD display, Snapdragon 835

20 May 2017
Unfortunately, the prototype unit is hidden in a protective case - that doesn't prevent it from snapping some photos, though.

A potential contender, throw this in for the next camera shootout

Looking forward for (the re-emerged) Nokia with the flagship model, 8/9. It will be interesting to include another flagship to the list of tops and to see how it will compare with: the S8 duo, U11, G6, XZ Premium, P10 duo, even Mi6 & the last year's Pixel XL (mostly for the camera) and eventually with the upcoming iPhones, Pixels, & the Moto, etc. (to don't include even the Note 8 & V30). But what is certain is that this year we'll have a very great selection of great phones to choose from and/or to see which finally will end up to be the overall best one of 2017 (overall & to the end of the year & cos currently the title of the best camera is already of the U11). At least as a first impression and based on the rumors, etc. The 8/9 sounds promising: SD835, 4GB/64GB, Nougat 7.1.1, dual 13MP, QHD (although it is the smallest one, 5.3"), QC3.0, etc. And yeah, definitely it will be much better for Nokia to include all they can in the 8/9's camera and overall, for that price and for the super competition.

I hope it's USB-C port has DisplayPort. It'd be nice to use a multiport adapter and use it as netbook :)
Currently, very few devices support video out from USB-C. I saw a video of LG V20 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW918MU4ATc) doing this and I think it's great to not need laptops or tablets anymore for typing/browsing/big-screen media consumption.

OnePlus 5 should also have it.

Aloof, 20 May 2017Excuse me, what is AOD? No offense, I just wanted to know. ThanksAlways On Display. The new fancy feature that allows you to have something constantly displayed on your device while using relatively low battery, such as the clock, an image, a calendar and so on. This is a feature available on OLED devices since blacks on these displays are true blacks, that means these pixels will be turned off completely, saving battery.

Sony is probably in work with an alternative lowered version of the IMX400, maybe IMX410, with a different resolution, and the same DRAM but not as capable as on the XZs/XZ Premium, like can only do up to 720p @540fps Slow Motion.

But I'm excited to see the XA2 and XA2 Ultra with the same 19mp Motion Eye Camera while the XZ1, XZ1 Compact, and XZ1 Premium will get a newer and even better sensor, as well as image processing.

Sorry for being too much fanboy. I do love Nokia, but those images are really horrible IMO, probably worse than that of the XZ Premium, which in itself is already terrible compared to the competition in low light.
Hopefully this is not the real Nokia 9, because those photos really looked foggy, much like the Galaxy J budget series produces

is it just me or does that seem excessive price wise for basically a new start up? i mean that price is competing with the galaxies and iphones, but i doubt its design or perdormance will match those, i know its a prototype but geez them camera samples look pretty woeful....a LOT of work needed there...design wise i guess it will keep with the current new nokia designs....probably remove the home button if rumours are to be belived.....i might just get xz premium as my second handset...be cheaper by release time of this anyhow

The so-called Always On display, is Nokia Glance Screen from Symbian and N9 era.

                              Where's your 41MP module, Nokia?

I hope Marco Ahtissari would willingly come back to
Nokia for the 2nd Gen next year. The design need to win again! Now even with Android.

It's funny every time a phone manufacturer seems to change flaws under complaint by consumers, the changes then get complained by another batch of humans of the Earth. Sorry, no one can satisfy all human. 5.3 inches is for size management obviously. But then this looks like another phone with more bezels so people are going to start hating again. Get a life.

As a NEW player in Android world who only released 6 Low-end YET mid-range PRICE TAG Android phones so far, Nokia sure is LOVES to gamble on their chance to GO BIG again.

As a new player in Android world in 2009, even Samsung didn't DARE to release a smartphone with price tag MORE THAN US$500. Instead, they choose to test the water by releasing many types of Android phones ranged from low to mid-end until a year later, when they braved themselves by releasing Galaxy S, in a year when Nokia's domination over smartphones crumbled and NO substitute market leader appeared YET (HTC & LG are better than Samsung in delivering Android phones at that time therefore many predicted one of them could be the next market leader)

The ONLY chance for Nokia to turn the table with Samsung (S8 series), Sony (XZ premium), HTC (U11), and Moto (Z2 series) is by equipping their smartphone with "out-of-fashion" features, such as removable battery, dedicated SD card slot, 3.5mm jack. Without these fearures, 99% potential buyer will buy flagship phones from already established brand.

OR, Nokia COULD priced their flagship phones similar to Xiaomi (Mi6 series) or OnePlus (5) at least, since Nokia nowadays made by Foxconn ENTIRELY, which means made in China where production cost could be reduced as much as possible, so they could go for "price war" strategy.
Unfortunately, seeing Nokia's TRACK RECORD this far after releasing 6 Android phones (X, XL, X2, 3, 5, 6), it is IMPOSSIBLE for Nokia to go this path.

Nokia, like HTC & Apple, always priced their product PREMIUM, no matter how SHITTY it is (everyone who have handled Nokia's early Android device knows how SHITTY Nokia X series both in hardware & software while priced similar to Xiaomi's Redmi Note 4G in 2014 (in my country, at least)). And the NEW Nokia 3, 5, and 6, considering their pricing tag, are EVEN MORE SHITTY when u compare it with the same Chinese-made android phone, especially Xiaomi ones.

For me (at least), if it is MADE in China, I prefer Andoid phone PURELY made by Chinese which over established & countimuous update services like Meizu, Xiaomi, or OnePlus.
A "hybrid" ones, like Nokia & Apple, which they claimed to be designed by their homeland company (Finland & California), but made & assembled in Chinese are NO GO, as they will priced their products more expensive than Chinese rival brands who designed, made, & assembled in China no matter what.

In short, IF Nokia STILL choose to priced their flagship phones without DISTINCTION or UNIQUE features, US$700 for a "kickstart" flagship is A EXPENSIVE JOKE EVER
