Here's the Symbian Anna web browser, finally improved

14 April, 2011
A big part of the Symbian^3 Anna update that Nokia unveiled on Money was the new web browser that reportedly brings improvements in both performance and usability. And the company seems pretty eager...

AnonD-5197, 15 Apr 2011It's not about who can do more anymore, it's about who can ... more1st of all, yes you're right, ios/android are very smooth in terms of usage

but i disagree with ur second point. tell me which of your current ios/android has:

HDMI output
FM transmitter
pentaband connection (3g)
xenon flash...(and no dual led is not a flash...it's video light at most...which is still pretty useless 1m out...ergo still useless...)
lifetime voice guidance
free maps all around the world WITHOUT USING DATA

in fact, in the enxt update, the n8 is getting NFC support...the samsung gs2 is coming with an optional nfc...so n8 is futureproofed tbh.

android comes closes to symbian...ios lags behind...the only good thing about it is it's ease of use...perfect for my 80+year old grandma/pa ;)

Why does Android drain so m... morenot quite sure of the real reason, but apparently the 2.3 android is supposedly a lot more energy efficient. Battery power depends also on where you live (how strong is the signal in your area? the stronger it is, the less battery ur phone will consume), how heavy of a smartphone user you are (if you playu music, browse the web, and play games non stop then don't expect for ur phone to last long). But i think the average users get is 1-2 days max...

I would like to know one thing. Why does Android drain so much battery by doing one simmple little task like listening to radio or music. I mean compared to Androids talk time and standby it is insane how fast android smartphone runs out of battery in such things. If you compare it to Symbian or iOS you can browse web and listen to music much longer. Even Windows drains less battery. So how is it possible in Android phones to have long talk times and short web browsing and music listening times? Please answer this one. I am thinking of buying my first Android phone and would be good to know so that I could do something about it.

kartoonz, 15 Apr 2011Why would all of the functions not matter. 1) Nokia's bro... moreI, unlike you, only put importance on a camera on a phone, not a browser on a phone. if you bothered to google n8, there's tons of n8 vs *insert camera*. one showed, with all settings in auto, the n8 is able to beat the canon 550. And why would i want to bring TWO things (phone and camera) when one is sufficient, especially as it's also got a xenon flash for my night shots.

yes the browser in n8 is weak, and yeah i use the opera v11 it's wonderful for me, because i don't have to be hooked up to the net 24/7 and in 30-40 mins (train ride) i'll be back home anyways...so who said the ovi store was crap? it's got stuff in it that i can use (and not a whole lot of fart/flash light apps).

I'm in Australia with three, and i'm paying 20 per month for a 350 bucks plan with 100mb data (it's small, but i use wifi most of the time and i only use 3g when im in the train).

if i'd gotten an android (most likely sgs/htc desire hd), it would've been 40 per month...

so the thing is...nokia is "a company which provides good services and at a cost you (i) can afford..".

so say what you want, but i can guarantee i have the best deal in town hands down.

These manufacturers don't give a damn about their users; All they're concerned with is pumping out new phones every 6 months and hoping people buy them.

                          1) Nokia's browser is the most outdated and nearly 90% tech junkies using nokia will use opera browser (u will be stupid if u r using the standard inbuilt browser).
                          2) Nokia has just entered the camera competition with N8, so does this make them the best?? Others are doing far better and why dont u get a digicam rather then getting a crappy symbian 12mp phone.
I am no android, ios fan rather was a loyal nokia fan for 10 years, but if other companies offer better options at lower/same cost i would not hesitate to switch to them. AND WHY ARE WE CRIBING ABOUT LOYALTY AND FANBOYS HERE, ARE THESE PHONE COMPANIES GIVING YOU ANY LOYALTY GIFTS OR ROYALTY TO ENDORSE AND BOADT ABOUT THEIR BRANDS!! just move on to a company which provides good services and at a cost you can afford..

Croco, 15 Apr 20111.The new browser is way better and supported flash lite as... morehi!

                            1. have u ever tried android?? im using htc desire running froyo and its just how i said it... like in pc... each and every flash in a webpage shows in the mobile browser.. (im even using it to view flash video episodes with all the flash banners animating in the background).

2.well said.. i agree with you, Ovi Store is "ok".. like it at that level...

3.widgets? as far as i know widgets are not just idle stationary icons that are functional just like shortcuts... they are widgets... more interactive and customizable...

                            4. iv been a nokia fan since 7110.. and yes iv used symbian phones before, jumping from one symbian phone to another.. and unfortunately the so called "hangs" is definitely part of the symbians multitasking feature..
whats to multitask if ul end up hanging and restarting ur phone..??

Can i do what i said in a mobile os?? one big Yes! Android is the answer my friend..(iOS too i think.. iv tried that in my ipod touch running v4.2 before and its just how i said)

                            5. its great... its like having ur contacts history in ur pocket..

Some of the functions i said really seems only a netbook can do.. thats what Android amazes me.. imagine every function i described can simply be performed by a mobile phone os...

apps are enhancements to phone functions.. but wouldnt it be great if the things u rely on apps is simply a built in function the OS(or phone for that matter)offers..?

The needs of users these days is as progressive as the mobile os' development. theres the un ending "needs and wants" in a phone that makes the mobile technology war produce amazing fruits that the users gets to taste.. if not for the progressive and innovative competition i bet we're still stuck playing Snakes, Memory, Logic in our phones...(imagine that...whew..)

I find that Symbian and iOs are the best. iOs is much more user friendly and does every popular feature that the public wants. Symbian is perfect for the power user. Android is just too fragmented and bloated for my liking.

Im yet to see what Android can do that symbian cant over a wide range of devices.

[deleted post]I'm still not looking at the evidence. Regardless, I've literally played with iphones/android and i'm not seeing anything i'm missing out on.

then again, OS are personal preferences. I looked at my options together with my current plan, etc and decided on and prefer a symbian. Not regretting it (no im not just saying it). unfortunately more people prefer android, nothing against them btw, if symbian's dead, i'm definitely going over to them...but not just yet :)
