OmniVision unveiled today a 12.6MP camera sensor, capable of shooting full HD 1080p video at 60 frames per second. Naturally, the sensor is destined to find place in future smartphones. The new OV12825...

      Why OmniVision unveils new 12.6MP sensor if Nokia N8 already had?
      You must CREATE BETTER camera lens that Nokia N8 already had!

              @Laurynas
              What's so confusing about it? It just shoots 15 pictures per second. Awesome. Hope that can be adjusted to less then 15. If we added B%W effect, that would look like an old movie.

              @anupam
              So what its 60fps? Will you use it on you beloved Blu-ray?
              You will have to decrease it to 25/30 anyway.
              And for me - the 720p resolution is just fine. For better movie shooting I have a real life camcorder...

                I still can't get why everyone is comparing it with NOKIA N8, this camera sensor is capable of shooting 1080p video at 60 frames per second while NOKIA N8 only 720p video at 25 frames per second.
                Anyway, good news!

                  So it's going to take 18 months for Omni Vision to catch up with the Nokia N8. Where will Nokia and Carl Zeiss be in 18 months time I wonder. Megapixels mean very little if the optics can't do the job. This is where the Germans and Carl Zeiss are the world leaders in camera phones and the rest are just trying to catch up with Nokia. The N8 is the industry standard camera phone and I'm sure that Nokia are determined to keep it that way

If they start talking about sensors and sizes then most non technical minded customers would be immediately bored and turned off. If a customer is shown that a 12 megapixel cameraphone will provide a far superior image quality than a 1.3 megapixel one then this is easy for the customer to comprehend. Of course the technical among us will know that the sensor is doing the work and providing the output quality. The megapixel concept is used purely to engage customers on their level and excite them into the purchase.

                              These manufacturers still insist on using megapixels to describe a sensor and it's supposed "quality". It's SENSOR SIZE that determines image quality NOT megapixels! For crying out loud its 2011 not 2005, enough of this megapixel nonsense.

                                Not being a BSI CMOS is a large disadvantage of this sensor.

                                  mobile phone, if they want to be thin, cant bend the laws of physics and optics. n8 camera is as good as it gets, and its a bulge on a phone. no 9mm phone can have a great camera
