So since May 18, 2016, and especially after Feb 26, 2017 (MWC)
Press release of Nokia and HMD joining hands to make the return of Nokia phones in the consumer market
All over the internet.
Ahhhh It's not the real nokia...........its Chinese.... Another Chinese rip off and etc etc
Fine.
Easy Solution... Don't care about it... Don't buy it.
Suggestion... Gain more knowledge about what's what and comment after that.
Me and others who Like the brand. Let us be in nostalgia (if that's what you think)
Both parties would be happy...
Criticizing a bad product is good (even if its Nokia, blackberry or apple or Samsung or whatever brand) but when it's more like an ugly rant when you state your own views as facts. It's just bad. Don't do that.

No one cares if Alcatel is now owned by Nokia, neither anyone does when Motorolla was owned by Lenovo.
Hmd already claimed to pursue the market by providing the general experience of the handsets first, not about the specs, they choose the middle ground since they doesn't have the time to develop superb edgy phone from the scratch in one year. That is the reason why they chosen to use stock nougat to pursue the best experience and fastest updates whereas every major manufacturers has failed to deliver because of their customized roms.
They played safe, and that's good in economical terms, even they admitted to pursue the low-mid markets first where android devices crowded at so why bother? To have great build quality and consistent android experience without digging the wallet too deep, isn't that convincing enough for consumers? Time changed, people too, and electronic manufacturers should embrace the change too to be able to keep up.
What do we expect from design perspective? The flow of visual trends of gadget has gone into this era of borderline dullness and mundanity, what could we expect from a slab of screen? There's too small amount of possibilities to be done in essence of tweaking the appearance of a phone, this is not 2004 where there are still infinite possibilities. Talking in market trend if we want to dig deeper especially those crowded mid-range consumers countries, no body gives a damn about design whatsoever, they expect a phone that is functional that's all. Thanks for iphone that sets the standard of high level device's appearance, now every single chinese oems pursue that design language, try to live in India, China or Southeast Asia, every single phone looked like an iphone.
By that in mind, most of people doesn't care about it, they seek what they saw, the valuable mid range market is not flagship geeks.
God, please make it the last time I have to explain this, hmd has not even fully marketed the recent lineup, and there's no flagship even released yet and we justify their lack of originality and quality? It's a freaking one year company, no one seemed to be in conscience for that common sense. This is not Nokia they used to in 2000's, they can't do magic like that no more. They were able to do that because back then they're the gigantic Samsung in present time, respect that reality. For a business model, to be able to sustain is the first priority, and by that what hmd does right now is good for the company, to sustain in the market as safe as possible.
Who could've expected what Xiaomi can do with their cheap low spec phone in 2012? Now see what Xiaomi is, a contender of every flagship manufacturers with half of every price. They simply started with trust of the market, not with the innovations whatsoever.
That's what present Nokia wants to achieve at first, who could've foreseen what hmd 5 years after this could do.

8GB of RAM. Wow.
My phone has 2GB of RAM and it runs flawlessly. Much, much better than my previous phone, which was the Galaxy S7.

If anything iPhone is of higher quality because Foxconn's main lines are used there.
Having only a bunch of your old employees is exactly my definition of actually having a new company. So it was wise to give it a new name (HMD), but very unfair to be able to print the same old name on phones. It gets people confused.
Lastly new "Nokia" is not the same design language and quality as old Nokia. No top notch camera, very different look and direction, it's obviously a different company. The phones looks strikingly like Sony Knock off, the chunky boarders, the middling hardware, the bad cameras... The big price...

The design is still in the house of hmd by Raun Forsyth and team which was previously also Nokia/Microsoft design team.
The reason they can't manufacture it all the "old original way" like what people portray is that because Microsoft doesn't sell all the manufacturing facilities which is now purposed to create Surface line.

Fnokia is a... more- First of all, foxconn acquired the microsoft mobile factories.
- hmd global acquired the manufacturing office which was previously owned by microsoft.
- hmd's hq is by any sense, in the Nokia district which was once Nokia building at the main Nokia facilities.
- other hqs are in London, and Dubai which also once Nokia facility. You can google map HMD to understand how deep the connection between Nokia-Microsoft-HMD in sense of facilities and offices.
- lastly, please check through carefully HMD's LinkedIn page to see how many staffs were from Nokia/Microsoft mobile. Overall the have 500-1000 members abroad, is that what how much a one year startup company could achieve?
This is not funny anymore, you're completely ignored the facts and nitpick any shallow evaluation to back your points to mock and smug around this community, do you realize that you're against community guidelines?
Hmd global is a startup IN THE NAME AND LEGAL ONLY, what's inside is pretty much leftovers of Nokia/Microsoft mobile division and facilities.

The other co-owners are actually no names with only a handful of Nokia engineers. I happen to know that most Nokia engineers are still Microsoft employees or simply free lancers. The few that are part of HMD hardly make a difference to HMD so much less in the partnership with Foxconn. *That's why it's not old Nokia. A bit of how I'm not my great grandfather despite sharing 12.5% of my DNA with him.
This new company is as much Nokia as I'm my great grandfather. They have more in common with lowly Chinese companies and startups... Heck it is a startup, nowhere near the depth of old Nokia with its 100 years + of continuous history.
Yet fanboys will ignore all this. Will merely buy the phone just because it has the same name. Ignoring fully that Nokia is dead, or maybe willfully ignoring it so that to feel superior buying from a start up company that it is mostly Chinese in its DNA.

- Microsoft Mobile's factories have been acquired by FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based Foxconn, who will manufacture all "Nokia" branded mobile devices including products developed by HMD.
- On 18 May 2016, Microsoft Mobile announced the sale of its feature phone business, described as an 'unwanted extra', to a new Finland-based company called HMD Global. The sale included design rights, and its rights to use to "Nokia" brand on all types of mobile phones and tablets worldwide until 2024.[9] HMD also signed a licensing agreement with Nokia Corporation which included giving it use of cellular standard essential patent licenses.
- HMD is based at Karaportti 2 in Espoo, Finland, on the same road as Nokia Corporation who are based at number 3. HMD's other main offices are located in London, England, and Dubai, UAE. The former Nokia House still remains part of Microsoft, now known as Microsoft Talo.

Fnokia is a 20 "Nokia engieers:" (in fact only a handful of them were) calling themselves HMD global and pretending to be Nokia. Naturally foxconn does most of the design too. Very much unlike with Apple where they only follow Apple's designs.
That's why I call it Fnokia , Foxconn's Nokia (or Fake Nokia if you are in the mood).
Fanboys buying Chinese knock off thinking its Old Nokia are very funny.
