The side fingerprint design is smarter you can also use it by left hand or right hand and put on a table face down or face up also can easily press the fingerprint button, the competitors just shame to admit it.

The side fingerprint is better because the hardware fingerprint button at front is very ugly.

Side mounted means only good formrighties. Means weird angles when on a table, means a relatively thick phone. It's full of problems.

A lot of people on here saying how the Sony side fingerprint sensor is the best. I totally disagree. Once you put a cover on the phone it makes the already skinny fingerprint harder to press. Remember that the side button is flush with the phone but when the cover is applied then the button falls deep within the side of the cover making you having to press the side of the phone with your finger so the print reader has enough access to your skin. front and back fingerprint sensors are more logical. Another person posted a comment saying how the side button lets you unlock the phone whether its laying on the screen or facing up. My question to you would be why would you want to unlock the phone facing down. That is just silly. As for the on screen buttons vs soft keys, I used to prefer the hardware buttons before but now find the on screen buttons not bad, especially the 3D home button as used on the Galaxy S8. Really clever and handy.

can't vote bc there is no option for us who prefer 16:9 and on-screen buttons ... and I don't really care where the fingerprint goes , it could be back , on the side or front makes no difference to me .

i love the implementation of Huawei in their P10/P10+ phones, minimalist as it is a single button with a lot of functionality.

The best solution i think would be the HOME button be built into the power button. 1 press takes you home, 2 presses screen off and a long press for your restart/power of menu. This should also have the finger print reader built in.
The back and multitask buttons could then be floating onscreen for you to position where ever you like, disappearing when not needed that totally tidys up the front of the phone of buttons.
This solution gives you best of both worlds, you still have a physical button without an enlarged bezel to accommodate it.
I think its reasuring to have a button to press than taping a screen and nothing happening.
As for the finger print reader on the s8, it may as well have been put at the bottom of the garden path as the place its in.

It hurts to see the Keyone portrayed with the option "I don't really care". I ordered a Keyone and I obviously do care.
In fact, the Keyone is the first phone with which I preferred onscreen buttons (to regain a proper suspect ratio and to disable the buttons when using the keyboard).
However, I voted for physical buttons, since those are always accessible, even when the screen isn't cooperating as it should.

I prefer physical buttons. Reason is simple: you can't accidentally swipe over and activate a physical button, you have to press it. Pressure-sensitive on-screen buttons could do the trick in the future.

The reason i bought samsung phone was because of the physical button.
But now they are omitting the physical button, no reason to buy.
For me, the on screen button is annoying.

I like the on-screen-button (back,home,multitask) with auto hide feature, because it is responsive than hardware button and it is easy to use. Hardware button always let the back and multi-task as a soft-key which is very annoying to use and the touch feeling/respond is bad.

So much better to have capacitive buttons that are fixtures ... I mean it's wasted space and it's basically the same kind of button but damn do I want it.
I mean it's a relic from a time companies just couldn't offer what they do now due to technological limitations, a workaround of shorts ... but damn do I want it.

OnePlus has the best implementation. they give option to activate on-screen button, and also a physical button underneath the screen.

Seriously what was Sony thinking? It's like their engineers live in opposite day. Chuncky bezels when everyone is shaving it off, small battery while everyone is nearing the 90+ hours in gsmarena test (or similar) , literally the worst nighttime photography when everyone is trying to fix exactly that...
