Lawsuit on Galaxy s physical design and user interface.
Lets discuss about Physical iphone design. Please take a look at "Samsung i700". It released in 2004, galaxy s is just advanced design to it. samsung can sue apple in this case.
Icons shape and alignment, Apple should sue android os not samsung. Anyway that is corporate problem, users dont need to panic.
Samsung or apple both wont bite their feeding fingures, they are not kids to cancel deals just because of this lawsuit. It is just a stunt of apple to bite some time of ifans and promote iphone4.

jobbylad, 22 Apr 2011Ha ha ha ha ha ha serves apple right. What a stupid thing to... moreIf you read the analysis by Nilay Patel you will know that Apple has a solid case.
Also it's funny that "biting the hand that feeds you" is thrown around so much here. Apple is Samsung's biggest customer, meaning they pay money to Samsung. Samsung does not give components for free.
Wouldn't it be Samsung biting the hand that feeds it by copying plagiarizing works of it's largest customer? Just a thought.

Anyone on this website will of course never be confused. But imagine those thousands of clueless adults, and sometimes parents buying for their kids and say "I want iPhone" and have no clue between iOS, Android and even Symbian lol.
Same thing with video games, a lot of parents use the word "Nintendo" to mean console, when they could actually mean PS3, XBox or Wii.

Lmao... Steve Jobs releases the reigns and this sh!+ happens.
Expected as much. Apple may have great innovation when it comes to design, but when it comes to what makes those innovations actually "WORK", they have no authority.
Samsung: "Alright, we'll stop making our phones like yours. You just stop using the gazillion hardware oriented patents we have that makes your phone work."

Even though I'm not fan of both, but I'm with Apple. I know who's right and who's wrong, this is all about creativity, not who supply who. All of Samsung's mind are just filled with money with lack of design creativity. As a designer, Go Apple GO!!!

Meeee, 23 Apr 2011Confusion over icons? If Apple is seriously sueing because ... moreI didn't make that up.. That's what Apple's claim is all about. I personally don't think people are confused when they see the products side by side. But it's true that some retails say "SGS is just like the iPhone, you should get this one instead".. that's what they mean by "confusion". Maybe I'm not using the right term here but hope you get what I mean. And yeah Apple is seriously suing Samsung for that.. some of the lawsuit's information is available for public, you can look them up.
That said, yes it sounds to us that it's a stupid reason to sue, but that's the whole point of patents (it's so broken). If Apple wins, they'll demand compensation from Samsung for potential revenue... This is one of the reasons why they delay the claim too so that when Samsung sells more, Samsung needs to compensate more if Apple wins. This suit is pretty strategically well timed since SGSI is almost discontinued and SGSII is hitting the market soon. While they can maximize the amount they can claim on SGSI they can also defame the SGSII...
You can think it's silly reason, but it's all law. It's still just my opinion, but I think Samsung can defend all but the claim against the icons...

AnonD-5197, 22 Apr 2011No, at the end of the day Apple will still buy from Samsung... moreConfusion over icons? If Apple is seriously sueing because of that reason that's just stupid. Apple have their own UI, their own design and a unique mobile OS. Anyone who mistakes a SGS icon as an iPhone icon should be sued by Apple for being too stupid to know the difference lol. At the end of the day icons will always look similar in design regardless of the manufacturer. This lawsuit seems kinda pointless.

anon, 22 Apr 2011thing is, ifsung stop supplying apple with hardware they wi... moreNo, at the end of the day Apple will still buy from Samsung, Samsung will continue to supply Apple. Apple wants to be compensated for Samsung taking its customers due to confusion and stop the confusion completely. That's their main goal. Samsung wants to keep using the TouchWiz and all its designs hence the countersue. This suit will not result in either companies going out of business or stopping supply.

i dont hate the iphone its one of my favourites, but i think that Apple is being selfish. I think the problem is the market sales. Samsung is short of about 50 mil units in sales of Apple for the year and i believe that they are afraid that samsung might surpass them in sales some time soon. As someone said erlier " never bite the hand that feeds you ".

thing is, ifsung stop supplying apple with hardware they will just to another supplier and this day and age. LG, Panasonic/matsushita, and all other electronics giant will be only to happy to make stuff for apple. so it really is a pointless. and could damage samsung.

well its all silly really, as apple will come out smelling of roses whatever happens. and the iphone 5/6/7 and so on will be still be selling mobile on the planet. so its pointless.
like motorola sueing every company as they actually invented the mobile phone.

I think Samsung might lose the case on icons in the US though (only this). Whether Samsung came up with those on their own or not, the call icon, sms icon, and some that look too similar will be caught under the law in my opinion.
I wonder what the countersuit for Samsung in the US is like. I assume it's a lot harder as Apple might own more patents in the US than in other countries. Looking forward to conclusion of this interesting event!

Samsung won't stop supplying Apple because that would make them lose money too...
I agree it was stupid and unnecessary of Apple to do that, but I have to admit... The first thing I thought when I first saw the Galaxy S was "looks just like an iPhone..."

bertol, 22 Apr 2011It's a very disappointing and desperate move by Apple. Sams... morei don't understand what apple is going to do most of comments that i've read are against apple even i'm with samsung because i love samsung but i did not hate apple but now i feel apple is very stupid and only apple will bark not samsung there is written in news that it will take a couple of years barking each other, this is wrong only apple can bark not samsung.. Samsung will reply them in a very good way.. Apple is like river who makes a lot of noise but samsung is like sea who has more power than a river but keep silent.. I love you samsung..

I guess it's time to remove the patenting system. Innovations are lagged due to it. What if Edison wanted nobody to make bulbs..... Ha ha ha.... Trust me, it kills creativity.
