India may have a larger smartphone market, but is it more profitable? Were those mostly entry-level phones or flagship phones? I'm sure most of your already know that the consumer's ability to pay directly affects asking/selling price, which directly impacts revenues. A great example is the battle between Apple and Android phones sales and profit margins.

Where people are with a decent infrastructure there smartphone sales are. More people can equal more sales, this is the case with India , sheer number.

India set to overtake the US that's quite possible because of the high sales from the entry level low budget devices that's why!

This was the most infant thing to predict, it was in the pipeline from very long time ago. Something like a ticking bomb, at a moment nothing, but then gradually tick after tick then finally it explodes. And not for nothing that companies like Xiaomi and others, even Samsung, etc, are doing their best to if not even dominating but at least taking a huge segment of the Indian market. And congrats to Flipkart, because it is an absolute monopoly in India, and within a few years or so, it will become so big that it will compete with the biggest international companies (sellers). Honestly speaking, considering its monopoly in India, it gives the impression that the head person is a very close friend of the President of India
                            (Pranab Mukherjee).

It is great news both for smart phone companies and govt. After 2008 recession most of the industries are going slow. But the smart phone market has boomed, specially after the JIO boom. It has decreased the cost of 4G data, increased the use of digital media and also help people to use the digital economy. I can clearly see that next few years it will run like this, may in next 5 to 10 years we can beat China. Also today Samsung has declared that it will double up the production rate of smart phone in India. And Apple is also considering a plant in India. Also the upcoming General Service Tax will also have a positive impact on the smart phone market. Overall it is great sign for everyone.

Hmm... Thanks to Xiaomi, lenovo and all other Chinese brands.
