Aside from this, the listing also reveals Snapdragon 835 chipset, something which has already been officially confirmed.

So keeping apps in memory would simply mean no need to reload ... *ever* because all is loaded directly to/from ram. Storage would only matter when you reboot, or get in an out of battery situation (things would be periodically stored in storage for safety), but in pretty much every other situation you'd get instant computing.

      Have you ran a computer from a ramdisk? There's nothing faster than that, that's what I'm talking about. The closest to that is probably Sony (in software) and OnePlus (in hardware), currently.

      Obviously you'd need a lot of ram for that to work. For example if you use 12GB from your storage, ideally, you'd need at least 12GB of ram (over time everything would be uploaded on ram) and little by little you'd only be using ram.

      So ultra fast SoC + RAM storage (used for the vast majority of IO transfers) = fastest experience known to man. Absurd amounts of ram is the future , not a gimmick.

        For now, I can do my personal style of multitasking with no issues on 3gb ram.
        Weekly reloads are perfectly acceptable.
        If the future is EVERYTHING in the ram and storage is only needed when devices are turned off, bring it on.

In the course of a week an 8GB phone would rarely reload, 4GB phones would reload often. One brings you instant computing the other brings you a slow grind.

            Multitasking test with 4gb and 6gb s8 models.
            App opening speeds are exactly the same.
            After opening 16 apps, the 6gb reloads one light app, the 4gb a game and a light app.
            Multitasking likes more ram, but I never really use more than 5 apps at once so I have no need for more ram.

              That means when opening a game, it can clock up for a few seconds to make it quicker.
              But it won't sustain the increased clocks over an extended gaming session.

                  BTW phones are long dead. Maybe they'd make a return with the bezeless design but I much doubt it. We'd instead get more proper sized phablets instead (6+ inches).

                  IMO the ideal *phone* (never to be released). Is 130x65mm bezeless (5.5 inch screen), with replaceable ceramic back.

                  Without the back it will just 5mm which but have a tiny (200mah) battery, with it will be 8mm thick but have 3000 mah battery.

                  That way you could swap the battery without having to switch off the phone (it will run off the internal battery) , wouldn't look like a$$ ... and for those not caring to replace batteries , it will have a serviceable 3200 may battery.

                  Small, slick, one handed use w replaceable battery.

                  It won't happen because OEMs doesn't like serviceable devices, also because they don't like phone (phablets everywhere these days).

                  For example you won't care if the back gets damaged because it would be replaceable...

You keep repeating the same Sony fanboy shpeal . I'm not being a fanboy, I always supported companies that put hardware first. The software I can fix myself (root, remove the app limit for example), the hardware I can't.

                      What's better? A handicap playing an easy game or an able bodied that play a hard game? I always go with the able bodied one. Because he can always choose to play an easier game, the handicap can never choose the harder game.

                      It's trivial to make oneplusnhold more than 20 apps in memory and completely destroy your precious Sony. It's impossible to !make Sony hold more than 4GB because it's HANDICAPPED.

                        And it's also the same story - Androids tend to reload them unless you do rooting and modify them to not kill the apps.

                        Regardless of how much RAM you have, the software will be the deciding factor of how good will a device's multitasking will be, and by that, I do admire Apple and Sony's aim of optimizing the software rather than increasing RAM capacity.
                        Sony's power of optimization is so incredible, even a 32GB iPhone 7 Plus can't win at opening an intensive game like Asphalt 8, and takes the 10x faster 256GB iPhone 7 Plus to beat it by a few seconds.

                        If OnePlus 5 will get the same exact performance boost (or even higher) from the 3T as much as the 3T / 3 from the 2, then I'll give them the credit and praise that they deserve (just not for the rumored design).

Having more RAM does NOT make your phone faster. The 4GB XZP beat 6 GB OP3T btw. A 4 GB RAM , and a 6 GB RAM all utilized the exact same speed. It's all in the software optimization that make the open apps a fraction of a seconds faster. And really? Do you really open that much app at the same time in real life and simultaneously render a 4k video as well? Please, stop being a fanboy. If instead you try 4 high ram apps the roles are reversed. Because OnePlus has app limit (up to 20 apps) and Xperia has RAM limit (up to ~2.5GB).

                              Android O would solve the need for background app limits to exist so you'd *always* get the low ram devices being beaten. More hardware most of aalwayts means better performance. All the software has to do is to allow such usage.

                                Many phones now a days have gaming modes or turbo modes that turns everything up, lowers thermal throttling and cuts down on useless background processes. This is done so that the phone can use every last bit of power to carry out a heavy process (mostly gaming).

                                They aren't tricking the software into giving scores beyond the hardware capabilities. They are just using all the hardware for one particular software .

                                      Benchmarks measure peak performance, phones rarely use peak performance don't ever refer to them again.
