    hmmm...

it seems that MS did their homework. a powerhouse in a small case.

but this gives SONY the time to build a better PS5 and to launch it knowing their competion in advance. This is quite unusual for this business. I am expecting it in november 2018, announcing it in late 2017 to kill MS`s xbox one x busniess before it starts.

I think we are going to see a more and more desynchronized generation battle between MS and SONY and a major upgrade from now one in each generation. many people say that the difference between xbox360/PS3 wasn't that big. well, this might be true. it was way below jumping from xbox/PS2 to xbox360/PS3. But I think that the upcoming 9th gen must give us 4K 60fps gameplay and way more details than today.

so I am very excited to see SONY'S answere on this.

Going to see A LOT of Americans crossing the border to pick one of these up, or ordering from Amazon.ca instead of .com.

I'll happily wait for the PS5 though as the exclusives are much better imo.

Canadians are getting a pretty good deal with the 599 price because that's less than 450 USD right now.

EDIT: Sorry, correction. 8GB of Flash Memory is correct, but it has 12GB of GDDR memory. The article is correct in referencing 8GB of "flash memory". :)

YEs with this release Console generational lifetimes have truly been reduced.

Please tell me that isn’t truly 22 EXCLUSIVE titles.

22 Titles yes, but Crackdown etc being on XBox only with limited unit sales. I’d hate to be a launch title EXCLUSIVE.

Microsoft launched the original XBone with a poor featureset. They opted for a $40 GPU part, which at the time the competitors (Sony) blew out of the water.
This equated to many many titles that ran at 20% less resolution at 20% less framerate.

Microsoft did EVERYTHING it could to fight back from its bad gamble (trying to maximise profit) by dropping Kinnect (even though it had PROMISED DEVELOPERS it would be included with EVERY CONSOLE)(dropping the cameras netted about 10% more CPU resources).
They they claimed ‘play anywhere’, and gave Windows 10 for free to up the potential number of Direct X 12 systems to try and lure developers with impressive numbers of potential customers. (For the record go look at the forums for Forza on PC, a play anywhere title that exists in namesake alone. They have done everything to keep the PC version down and a hassle to use so that gamers play on Xbox only).

No developers wanted to optimise for the ESRAM, and find ways to make a small CPU increase net better results.
They were happy porting PS4 games over, and leaving the gamers to fight in forums over which platform was better.

Microsoft don’t want gamers on PC (can’t charge for Xbox Gold subscription to play multiplayer games, can’t make money from licensed controllers, and don’t get money from every software title bought). And to keep the Xbox relevant they released the ‘S’ model that closed the gap with the original PS4.

Now Sony on the other hand, had a reason for a mid generation hardware refresh of significant increase- Virtual Reality.
VR requires massive amounts of Graphics processing (and CPU) to keep high refresh rate to two screens. So Sony created a bunch of rules for developers (No PS4 Pro exclusives), and made the PS4 Pro a console that would render games at higher refresh rates.
                  The Playstation Pro made sense.

Microsoft saw this opportunity to go, ‘mid generation lifecycle upgrade’!? AWESOME.

                  And they ran with it.
They are killing PC gaming as best they can, and I can only hope this article misquotes the idea of this console having EXCLUSIVES.

Consoles used to punch so far above their hardware weight class due to title optimisation.

Look at megadrive/genesis and Super Famicom/Nintendo second and third generation software titles- they were amazing.
As people got to learn tricks and master what they had, we the consumer benefited.

This new ‘super console’ is all apart of Microsofts forced demise on the market.

Which we consumers will end up losing trust in.

Nintendo year in year out does well cause they are ‘old reliable’ and Sony took massive steps to work with developers and be friendly.

Sure the PS3 had Cell and was hard for ‘cross platform titles to shine’. But anything written for that console was amazing.

Now that major platforms are very compatible with PC hardware, it makes sense that PC has become the lead platform (and Playstation), and Microsoft gets the port.

XBoX X (XXX?) will need the death of PC to really shine. Microsoft is working really hard to achieve this. (Everyone will argue; but if you see what is happening ‘behind the scenes’ right now, you would know).

Please save arguments for the first six months after the Xbox X releases.
Win10 with all its ‘forced driver update’ goodness, combined with Windows updates that can changed the way things work, allows Microsoft the ability to make it ‘hard’ to game on PC.

Some will figure it out. Many will choose the easy path.
That microsoft will be handing out ‘free samples’ to get users hooked. (When you buy an Xbox ‘play anywhere’ title for PC, you are buying the Xbox version. No doubt PC gamers experiencing issues will just migrate.

                  This is microsofts plan.

                  Anyhow- I love consoles.
Used to sell business machines (computers) and would always recommend customers wanting a high end gaming machine for their kids, to get a console and a computer to allow the computer to be used for useful things, and let the gaming console be dedicated and have little to no issues.

Microsoft are really hurting the gaming industry in order to post profits to their shareholders.
Gaming is worth enough for them to give away their desktop platform for ‘free’. That speaks dividends.

That decision to put an inferior video chip in the original XBone led to this. They wanted all the money they could make and it backfired. Now they are spending bigtime to regain market share.

Just like the original XBOX. Microsoft were willing to lose about $100 a unit selling them. They knew it would pay off in the long run.

I vote for ethics with my wallet.
                  I WILL NOT USE MICROSOFT

                      ps1 released in 1994, discontinued in 2005 -- lifetime sales 103 million
ps2 released in 2000, discontinued in 2013 ( had a japanese stopgap playstation called PSX in 2004, has hdd, first with xmb) -- lifetime sales 160 million
                      PS3 released in 2006, discontinued in 2017 - lifetime sales 87 million
PS4 released in 2013, estimated release successor most likely in 2019 ( why would they break the cycle of 6 or 7 years life, especially, when sales indicated 100 million ( already 60 million now) by 2020 )

A risky proposition. If the gamble doesn't pay off, low market share will only further erode Xbox compared to Sony Playstation.

Ok, 6TB GPU(something like Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX 580, pretty good for a console), CPU a bit modified from the last generation one(no Ryzen here) , same 8GB RAM and a 1TB HDD... It should play most of today's games at 4K 60fps(but not ultra graphics, let's say high) or anything possible at 1080p at the highest graphics and score 60fps.
