(That is, getting a native video of the same resolution)

      Yes it makes sense.

Cool, but how will it work? Plug it in 6 USB 3.1 slots in a computer powered by two GTX 1080Ti in SLI? The headset will likely cost near to 1000$, yet you'll have to provide a 4000$ PC to enjoy it.

So basically Samsung is trying to put an mobile SoC to do the job, that my 2x770 in SLI cannot?!
Well congrats to them, and call for me in 2025 when they finaly will relise that headset...

Increase refresh rate. Thats important then just pixels.

Trump fan 1980, 22 Jun 2017 Samsung is an industry titan. If anyone can popularize vr ... moreSamsung never popularized anything. In that regard she is a midget, like Microsoft, like Sony...

The only true giants is Apple (popularized PCs, mp3 players, digital economies, the smartphone in its modern form, the ultra book and tablets).
Google (popularized internet Search, digital mapping and online mail, possibly online video although YouTube was already big, online advertisement)
                      Facebook (social networking, digital sociability)
Twitter (popularized politics through digital means, basically creating international terrorasm in its present form but also international political movements for true change)
Amazon (online retailing, basically killing Malls)

In fact there are less than 10 companies that made the modern world.

Samsung, Microsoft and Sony are not them, being copy cats is in their DNA. They'll never invent anything of value or popularize it. They maaay make it better. They parasitize on the work of others.

Great news, now that's what I was waiting for. I never bought a VR box just for this reason, 2k ppi means freaking lifelike experience!!!

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2017So they refuse for years to release their 4k amoled panel (... more1080p is still ok on a phone, 2k for 5.5" + devices, and you're crying for 4k!! Again, a full-blown VR device is a better choice than putting your phone in a VR box, that was a stop gap measure to get people in VR, and seems like you're stuck in it.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2017So they refuse for years to release their 4k amoled panel (... more4k on a phone is useless and drains the battery too much. Once batteries become better then 4k and 5k screens will become common on phones. VR needs high density screens because they are only an inch away from your eyes

So they refuse for years to release their 4k amoled panel (basically same pixel density since Note 4, almost 3 years ago) and we finally learn the reason... Some more milking by forcing customers to buy an additional device. Let's IG ore that I use a potentially ultra high PPI device every device, let's instead buy a device that I will use once per month if that...

I can understand that profitability should be a drive for companies. But good standing should be another. Cheap tricks like the above (qhd over and over again on phones) should certainly be punished.

BTW the idea of using your phone for everything was perfect. Finally one device to do it all (VR, desktop dock, mobile computer), they just randomly decided to move to the opposite direction... This company is a mess...

Samsung is an industry titan. If anyone can popularize vr and/or augmented vr it just might be Samsung. This news article indicates that they may be doubling down on technology, in order to help facilitate that end.
