Pet, 24 Jul 2017How about another Samsung Galaxy S5? The S5 Neo is a more recent device than the other members of the S5 family.
The majority of original Galaxy S5 units shipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoCs. Qualcomm reportedly has not released updated drivers for this chipset with compatibility for frameworks that are mandatory for Google's official Nougat certification. It is certainly true that no devices based on the Snapdragon 801, from any manufacturer, has ever received an officially certified release of Nougat.
The Galaxy S5 Neo uses an Exynos SoC, for which Samsung has complete control over all device drivers.
Additionally, the same Exynos SoC used in the S5 Neo is also used in the Galaxy A5 (2016), for which an official upgrade to Nougat has already been released. A lot of the hardest work Samsung would have had to do to get the S5 Neo up and running with Nougat would already be done due to their previous work on the A5 (2016).

AnonD-542428, 01 Jul 2017When is update to nougat, release date? There are no guarantees. This might be a purely experimental build that will never be released. Samsung hasn't made any public statements about it.

Do these benchmark sites only report results from official manufacturer ROMs?
I know there is an effort underway to port Lineage OS 14.1 to the Galaxy S5 Neo; is there any chance that the benchmark we're seeing is just an artifact of someone experimenting with such a preliminary 3rd-party build?

Zoom, 23 Jun 2017Android 6 is quite different from 5 with all the permission... moreAgreed, 6 was a bigger update than 7 and 8 looks to be another incremental update. I doubt either will reach 6's OS market share unless 8 is way better.

While alpha can record 4k videos... my only hope is that sony xperia xz compact could be released with flagship specs because samsung released a3 2017 with specs from a5 2016 which are pretty bad...
And I still can't believe that alpha is a brick from a single UPDATE.

You seem to forget that my other devices have beefier gpus. And i "witnessed" and even spoke on this site about that lollipop update disaster when it reached S5.
I also have a Moto X 2013, i kept it on kitkat. Check the thread here, many complaining and regretting to have updated it.
And forgot, i also have a Lenovo S90 Sisley. Device is fine with kitkat, i tried twice to run lollipop firmware on it. Guess what? it's slow with 50% less ram available, i'll just flash it back to kitkat when i ll have some time to offer it to my dad.
I'm commenting from experiments, not wild guesses.

AnonD-12498, 22 Jun 2017Even 6gb ram is gimmick, Alpha had Steller multitasking whe... moreNot totally agree there. Kitkat was "perfect" for many phones : low ram usage and low ressources needed to run it. Since Lollipop, android has changed : more ram used by defaut, apps use more ram, (check Chrome for example) and cpu requirements raised too.
Alpha wouldn't run Nougat as brillantly as it runs kitkat ( i still have mine with kitkat). I have a S6 with lollipop, a S5 and a Moto X Style with Marshmallow and a Huawei P8 2017 with Nougat and they are all barely smooth compared to kitkat despite their beefier specs especially when you instart installing and running your usual apps (maps, playstore, whatsapp, skype, chrome, youtube, etc... and i don't play games).
I think Google lost its way, they are bloating the OS which was perfect in that time and people don't even notice that.
