Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 450: a 14nm process makes it faster and more efficient

    200 for 100$ phones 400 for 150-250$ phones, snapdragon 6xx series for 300-450$ phones

        should be 1.75 GHZ for 25% increase in performance. Not a bad little budget chip and likely good battery life :)

                        They could have used 4x A35 and 4x A53 for sd450...
                        I think it would have been more battery efficient.

                          ARM's A55 core's won't bring much of a difference in comparison to A53 they are only 6~7% faster in IPS the claimed rest of 12% come from internal RAM improvements as A53's ware rather slow & problematic (A53 erratum's). Main switch in new A75 & A55 core's is switch back to the individual L2 cache (all arm V7 & V8 before had shared one) & mainly doubling the amount of L1, L2 (for A55 the A75 already inherent this from A73). This actually adds 6~10% performance (half the latency & two time the size is =2x2=4= 4x less cache misses). The cortex A75 is much more interesting as it's real successor of A72 & it brings 20~43% performance increase so this time around performance difference between small and big cores actually risen (from 1.8x to 2x [in integer performance]) while power consumption difference remains the same (about 2.5x roughly). The main star of the show next year won't be new core's but new DynamIQ cluster controller. At the end question remains do we really need small cores at all on smartphones considering that pushed frequencies of small cores will eat up the efficiency difference (A55 @ 2GHz will consume same amount of power as A75 @ 1GHz while having the same performance)? Same question applies to the heterogeneous (now mixed core) design along with ridiculous number of core's (as they are waisted mostly thanks to curiosity of scheduler logic as it is now).

In general, I don't understand the... moreIt is much more expensive but the major reason is that the big cores use 4 times the power of a53 but only provide 2 times the performance. That's why android has been moving to allow more work to be done on the smaller cores like you look at vulkan, a big part of why it's better is you can split the threads and run on smaller cpu cores. From what I understand Android use big cores to keep things smooth for transitions, app swtiching etc. It's just the opposite approach of apple and it obviously works. Another reason I think is due to 14nm, they can raise the clockspeed of a53 and it can run at higher speeds longer due to running cooler. Of course with the new arm processors we might see 1+7 octacores that'll be best of both worlds. Either way bringing 14nm to cheap phones is a good thing, battery life and heat will be more consistent.

                              The only Soc that uses custom cores based somewhat on Cortex A15 its Krait.

                              And yes, on a similar scenario, like same litiography (32nm, even 28 passes... i guess), same number of cores (2) and clocks (1.3Ghz), the A6 complety destroys a cortex A53.

                                LOL, do u know why there are few manufacturers used Cortex A15, instead of Cortex A53 or A57?

                                Because, in ARM v7, Cortex A9 is the best performance/battery, and if u REALLY want high performance 32-bit core, there are Cortex A17, which have big improvement over Cortex A9, not Cortex A15, TROLL...

                                BUT, when Cortex A53 released soon after, every fabless companies (except apple) discarded Cortex A15 & A17, in favor of Cortex A53 and A57.

                                According to ARM, Cortex A53:
                                "It is less than half the size of the high-end Cortex-A processors, and between 2 and 3 times more efficient, while still delivering performance equivalent or higher than the Cortex-A9 processor that powered high-end smartphones just a few years ago.
                                This blend of efficiency and performance enables affordable smartphone and consumer devices with substantial compute power in the lowest power and area footprint.
                                The Cortex-A53 supports the full ARMv8-A architecture. It not only runs 64-bit applications also seamlessly and efficiently runs legacy ARM 32-bit applications. "

                                So, the choice of Cortex A53 over A15 because Cortex A15 is powerful yet inefficient, while Cortex A53 is as powerful as A9, and as energy-efficient as Cortex A7, a balanced performance/battery core.

                                As for Cortex A57, it is the successor of Cortex A15, which has the same fate, abandoned, in favor of A72, one of the most powerful ARM v8, 15% more energy-efficient over A57 and 50% more powerful than A57 at the same clock

                                Still going to say I don't kno about "how things works"?
                                At least, I know ALL important things to know of Most Cortex A-cores than U!

                                  In these sentence, u keep praising iphone 5, which is SUCKS BIG TIME, unlike it's successor, 5s, which is still have loyal users & wanted by isheeps who wanted cheap, refurbished iphone because of its excellent A7 processors & GREAT GPU (powerVR SGX series in previous A6x and older are CRAP, unlike ROGUE series used in A7 and later)

                                  Do u know WHY Android device manufacturers keep adding RAM? Because in LINUX world, more RAM = more productivity. U can do ANYTHING u want to do with Android at the same time, with many apps working in background, if u have bigger RAM.
                                  Moreover, google keeps adding more & more features into Android where having more RAM is the norm, that's why every year or two, there'll always device(s) with "unthinkable" size of RAM, like 6GB or 8GB.
                                  Don't start with apple optimize iphone so it won't need that much RAM, because, at the end of the day, apple KEEPS INCREASING RAM SIZE OF iphone (3GB @ Iphone 7+), because, like Google, Apple keeps adding features that needs bigger RAM for it to keep work "fluidly"
                                  (btw, apple DON'T ALLOW MULTITASK FOR 3RD PARTY APPS, instead they "suspend" the process when u opened another apps, so don't try to BS me)

                                  the last, can u tell me ANYTHING iphone could do, but Android can't? I have observe iphone & ipad since 2010, but can only see ANYTHING Android can do that iphone/ipad couldnt
