Almost all ROMs of them are excelent! So, can't blame MTK itself for lack of improvement. It is true that flagship SD chips are more powerful but it goes with price.

Anonymous, 09 Jul 2017Disagree. Mediatek already have worldwide 4g connection eve... moreYes Mediatek can use all frequencies...
But phone manufacturers have to pays Qualcomm even if they use Mediatek's soc...
As Apple has to pay Qualcomm even when they use Intel's lte chip!

AnonD-409058, 10 Jul 2017Doesn't matter if it is X30 or X40, unless and until they r... moreThat's your choice...sources of Mediatek devices are more or less available when HTC, Sony or Lenovo are involved...
Smaller brands don't provide sources, updates aren't available but it's often due to something else (camera, fingerprint, touchscreen...)
Now you can find sources for several mtk's soc (mt6737, 6752, 6753, P10, X20...).
Things becomes better and better...
Maybe if Google stop using SD on all their phones and sometime use Mediatek, it will be easier too...after all, they take the money from people that use their market on mediatek's devices!
Situation seems to be unfair!
As you can see, most companies stop making soc for smartphones such as Intel, nvidia, st-microelectronics, Texas Instruments...
You've got only companies that make both soc and smartphone (Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi) and Mediatek...
I heard that nearly 80% of Qualcomm's benefits are made with patents! That's unfair
Base on these facts, my opinion is that Qualcomm abuse of LTE/cdma patents (and will probably abuse of NFC patents in near future as they buy NXP). China, Korea, Canada already comdamn Qualcomm...even american FTC investigate on Qualcomm.
The main risk for customers is Monopoly.
And the lack of alternatives (remember the crapdragon 810).
I prefer not having (the full) sources than supporting monopoly.
I will never buy Qualcomm until patents costs will be publish and until benefits are fairly balanced.
Beside that, I consider that outside benchmarks Qualcomm's soc aren't that better...(some like 410 or 615 are even far worst than their direct competitors). Their custom cores are even weaker than regular ARM Cortex (both Krait and Kryo)

Doesn't matter if it is X30 or X40, unless and until they release source code I am not gonna buy MTK phone. With Snapdragon at least I have some hope about developer support & unofficial OS updates. I really don't get what is stopping them (MTK) to do so. Really appreciate MTK pricing though, it is always WFM. They are AMD of the mobile world.

It seems that most probably it will be quite promising with the MTK X30 SoC. But hopefully (although probable) it will include a lot more of the high-end specs.

Anonymous, 09 Jul 2017the reason mediatek cant compete with snapdragon is that it... moreFull wrong!
As Krait and Kryo on S820 doesn't use Big.LITTLE they're worst than Cortex...easy to understand : because of consumption !
Krait has bad JavaScript performances...far behind cortex A15 or A17.
Krait 300 on S600 are bad. Mt6592 is nearly as fast with...Cortex A7...sad it doesn't include 4g and a better gpu!!!!
Krait 450 at 2.65ghz on S805 can't get A17 at 2.2ghz
Kryo from S820 is a little better but not as good as A72
New Kryo on 835 is very close to A73.
Why Qualcomm is used on all flagship...(except Samsung and Huawei who have their own soc)?
Simple : lte and cdma patents that allows them to control the market and sell soc even if they're bad (410, 615, 810...)...I don't say all are bad
Nearly 80% if their benefits are made on patents not on soc!
Even if your phone use Mediatek, Exynos, Kirin or Intel (on iPhone), Qualcomm make benefits (according to what I heard 5% of the Price if the device!)
If Mediatek sell X30 for 50dollars on a 500dollars device, they probably makes less benefits on it than Qualcomm without selling any hardware!
Qualcomm poisonned the market with cdma/lte and will do the same with NFC (as they buy a company called NXP)

I think mtk have come a hell of a long way in the last few yrs when they were battery leaching, power hungery underperforming budget chips. I am amazed at what they achieved with the gradual stepping up of their game since the helio socs emerged.I have a redmi pro with x25&3g ram that I'd put on about the same level of performance than my note5 or exy powered s7e or even the 820 in my zuk z2.No wonder samsung have decided to start using them in their mid tear devices as we have seen from sony & of course htc all do the same. If only they were more prone to giving out unlocked bootloder so developers could spend the time & effort they expend on the low to mid tear Qualcomm chips. I'd love to see a well optimized & full featured rom on a p10,x20,x25or x30.p30

Zero, 09 Jul 2017End of july will be released.
But enough Meizu and Media... morethe Helio X30 is a quite powerful chipset. it scores just a notch below Snapdragon 835 (something around GS8-s835 Version). and that is being considered if it has 4 GB of ram. more if there's 6 GB. then it'll have the avarage score of a snapdragon835.
core feature: Beasty multicore score. allegedly breaking the 7k barrier.(it has a whopping ten cores. so how not?) but I fear it'll have only a decent GPU. even if it's the PowerVR 7400 series. but then again. I might be wrong. Let's see the details in the benchmarks.
