First Tweet from atop Everest courtesy of the Galaxy S II

08 May, 2011
Kenton Cool recently became the first person ever to tweet from the top of Mount Everest. The British mountaineer sent both a tweet and made a 3G call via the relatively new 3G enabled phone mast...

"The call Kenton made, and the tweet he posted were done so on a Samsung Galaxy S II and were designed to promote just how great the handset is."
Yes, yes, right in my face and all the other Android users that do not have a SGS2. I see Samsung became just like Apple --> If you don't have it you're either poor or unpopular.
(Just my random rant, because I have the old laggy model (SGS).)

Not only it's hard to believe that no other (non-hyped) mountaineer has tried such twittering (nvm that any random phone would work); also one quick Google search makes the issue clear on the first page of results (despite all the noise from how virtually _everybody_, for some reason, eagerly repeat this Samsung marketing gibberish):

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2011-05/9/everest-tweet (but it's also hard to believe nobody else used that working 3G mast for calls for over half a year)
http://techcrunch.com/2009/05/18/twitter-reaches-new-heights-as-climber-tweets-from-everest/ (this might also count; 2 years ago; doing it also for charity, much better than for some random phone PR; only one of many twittering expeditions (!!)... 2 years ago)

So yeah, this marketing "achievement" is dubious at best... (but then again, it did work with almost everybody, judging by google results)

Crying shame, my own country doesn't even have 3G but the Yeti's on Mt Everest can make 3G calls. :(

AnonD-5657, 09 May 2011In fairness, gsmarena puts out the most thorough reviews of... more I see your point, gsmarena was and still my favourite tech site.

and like you till recently I only checked their site for tech news
But with the release of the gs2,I just couldn't wait anymore so I checked the aforementioned sites
and actually they aren't half bad

You should check techradar and engadget , they are quite good.

Hope gsmarena will be up to speed soon as well.

                                    Cheers
