10 May, 2011
Some images posted on the Nokia Germany website just lifted the curtain on one of the features to come in the next Symbian^3 update. What we are seeing is the free-form widgets that were initially...

AnonD-1393, 12 May 2011Can't you understand what "by design" means?! It ... moreHow is it correcting me when Iphone only available in one market share which is Smart phone segments? That is like saying Lambourgini is losing to Toyota in the mini van market segment when Lambourghini does not compete in the mini van segment? Does the iphone beat Nokia in high end smartphone market segment? Yes it does, no denying that so again my statement about you trying to justify Nokia's dominance in a segment that doesn't matter is irrelevant. Again, your statement about Rolls Royce Phantom is incorrect, does rolls royce phantom compete with other car manufacturer that is for the rich with chauffeurs? Their rear hinged doors also does not lag when opening ;) Where as Nokia competers with iOS and Android and their "design" is not well received was it? I'm pretty sure if the people who bought rolls royce phantom did a customer survey and 90% of them complained about rear hinged doors, Rolls Royce would change it and not consider it a feature.

I'm sorry but this is just silly. Can you say that for ALL android phones? No.
    Just one example:

While no ARM11 android phone is able to record and play 720P videos, all symbian^3 phones can.

How about comparing C7 and Galaxy Ace. I think it's fare enough:

    C7's advantages over Galaxy Ace:

    1. AMOLED display
    2. 8 GB internal storage
    3. USB On-the-go support
    4. Bluetooth 3.0
    5. 8 MP dual-LED flash camera
    6. 720p video recording
    7. Can play 720p videos
    8. front facing camera
    9. FM transmitter
    10. TV-out
    11. Active noise cancellation

    Ace over C7:

    1. DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot
    2. auto-focus camera
    3. android market

that depends on what device your talking about. imho the c6-01 blows almost all of the android devices within the same price range out from the water....given the exception of the mediocre 'edof' camera.

AnonD-695, 12 May 2011nokia probably removed the 'lag' just for the sake of the g... moreYou would think that if Nokia was so determined to design an OS that is meant to compete with Android and iOS that they would make something as simple as home screening more fluid rather than to make it "lag" on purpose would they not? Maybe that's why Nokia let all those symbian developers go? At least that is a step in the right direction as those developers don't even know what the general public wants/likes? "Android and iOS is so smooth, so we'll make our UI lag on purpose to differentiate ourselves!", that maybe the thought running through the symbian developers mind when they were building S^3.

Anonymous, 12 May 2011If it was designed like that then why the need to change it... moreCan't you understand what "by design" means?! It can't be a FAULT when it's designed like that and even the reason was given and it's written in the review. Anyways, the way it works has been "changed" in Anna.
Can you say that rolls royce phantom's rear doors are faulty because they open backwards?! No, because it is designed like that.

Currently I have a N73 that I didn't really like from day one, but not because it was defective or I didn't like symbian, but because I didn't like its design and size. It was a gift so I kept it.

          You wrote this:

"iPhones market share is higher than Nokias market share"

I simply corrected you. There is no denying that nokia's smartphone share is decreasing.

I'm not a fanboy and I even stated that I buy whatever phone that is good for the price, nokia, samsung, htc, lg, whatever.

As I stated, I didn't know the meaning and I assumed it was "nokia HD" hence the question mark after the statement. Still my statement stands corrected, Nokia devices are weaker than Android and are not comparable.

AnonD-1393, 12 May 2011You're so wrong. Obviously you didn't even read gsmarena's ... moreIf it was designed like that then why the need to change it Anna update? So you're saying I am correct that Anna update corrected this fault?

                    http://blog.gsmarena.com/here-is-what-the-new-symbian-update-anna-is-all-about-video/

GSM arena's own site review about Anna, clearly states that the previous lag when home screen scrolling has been adjusted/fixed.

You say you buy any phone that is good, so what phone do you own? Nokia? How is it you are buying an inferior product and claim you'll buy anything that is good? You buy an N8 yet you keep using claims about how Nokia's entire market share is large. Before you fanboys would argue that Nokia's smartphone market share was biggest, now that it is not, you move onto global marketshare and include dumbphones into it to justify your love for Nokia. I bet you're gonna praise the N9's release even though it's using a mobile OS that no one really cares about. ;)

                      Here, read for yourself:

"You might notice that the homescreen starts scrolling only after you have completed your swipe across the screen but that’s how it was designed and not some lag. Because of the fact that some widgets are side-scrollable the handset waits to see if you want to browse them or skip to the next screen."

                      http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n8-review-523p3.php

Can you still say that it's a fault. Anyways, this behavior has been "changed" in Anna update.

So what if symbian^3 phones GPU is weaker than android phones? They play the current HD games just fine with good frame rates and I don't care if it's because of their lower resolution.

While you're right about iphone having a bigger market share than nokia's SMARTphones, but nokia's total market share is bigger, but again who cares? I'm buying a phone not market share. If the phone is good, I'll buy it, no matter if it's nokia, samsung, htc, etc.

You said WVGA is "made up" yet the link we both linked shows WVGA on the list? So what is it? WVGA is not standard or is it standard? Nice way to contradict yourself buddy. Also it list only Nokia devices uses that resolution, for something that is considered "industrial standard" and "termed" you would figure there would be more than one manufacturer using it wouldn't you? Do you need a definition of "industry" or "industrial" as well. Thanks for reaffirming my statement about Nokia and nHD. Do you consider DVD movies 1/6.75HD? or WVGA as 1/5.4HD?

So again where is nHD an industrial term? Only Nokia uses it no other manufacturer of any devices uses said resolution.

I have been a Nokia User for ages but for the last one year I quit using it. Used a Galaxy i9000, samsung P1000, iPhone4 and these days I am using HTC Desire HD and Nokia N8 simultaneously. Trust me guys other phones may be cool, brilliant, high speed processors and what every but Nokia N8 is a solid reliable phone. Good display qiality (though a bit small), brilliant camera, great sound quality, excellent battery life as comapred to all the phones mentioned here and above all great flexibility of doing everything with one piece. I am loving it....
