Reading the pros and cons regarding this article, I'm agree with the article. The amount of electricity generated is neglible and impractical.
As mentioned in the inventor's claim it only generated 50 miliVolts, most mobile phone battery now is 3,7 Volts which equal to 3700 miliVolts. Not even considering how tiny Current (Amps) it can generate.
Yet it's not completely impossible, I doubt it'll be mass produced for at least 50 years to come. And I do know, what I'm talking about for i completed electrical enginering with honours.

okay, I'm fine reading insane comments.let me put this straight. This stupendous claim is not only impossible but there is absolutely no possibility of it being possible in the distant future. In fact, not even God our aliens from space would make it possible.
Why?
A microphone is a resistor.resistors di don't produce electricity, they consume it. A microphone works by varying it's resistance with fluctuations in pressure on it's surface. You pass electricity into it, it consumes part of It and then sends the rest out.

How nice would it be if the writer of this article were to also say, "I'll eat my hat if they ever came up with something that actually works" Oh wait hasn't history proven that such narrow minded thinking caused an increase in hat production ;-)

You can't put a dot to this one, innovation today is so fast that you can't imagine what will happen next. Its amazingly how they start that one although it is given from a long time. I mean, how resourceful they are. a good start to innovate! lets just wait and see what surprises they have next time..

Nothing is impossible. Last time super computers that occuppied your whole bedroom or living room is now sitting on a desktop in front of you. Now even become smaller and smaller like the phone we using got such computing power. So let just look on the bright side of things and keep a open mind.

Being able to produce electricity through conversion of sound waves is possible but the amount that it can produce even with a 100% efficient engine is another thing. Just being able to produce food isn't enough, one has to produce it high enough to meet the requirements of a human colony. Same goes here....

GSMArena, with an attitude like that we'll never continue to innovate. Heck, with a mindset you are implying we should still be on those Motorola bricks from the 1980s for all you care.
At the end of the day, minute research discoveries and the curiosity of man is what allows humans to continue innovating, to continue discovering, to continue being... well, human. It's what sets us apart from every other living thing on this planet.
Yes, ok. At its current state the technology is this charger rather useless at anything but being used as a microphone. But that don't give you the right to put it down because of it. An example; the Wrights brothers copped a laughing when they tried to make a flying machine but hey, look what happened. Granted the very first flying distance was rather short but the thing is, they did what was THOUGHT to be impossible (ie, fly). And skip ahead a century and look at where we are today; the concept of flying-man is radically innovated and different to back in the days of the Wrights. And for all I care (and others WILL agree), every single invention / discovery started out that way.
So GSMArena, I suggest you think about it. Research like this is what gets us places, and what gives YOU the newest and latest devices to review. And you have absolutely NO right to put it down in the manner that you have until the research itself has been dropped or cancelled. Then you can voice your opinion to the world. Articles like above is just going to slow down fellow researchers and may even discourage them from brining the main-stream consumer more innovations in the future. And in my books, that will be rather detrimental for you too, being a tech site and all.
