Although it has small differentiation in the back (mainly camera position), the overall design is... so common. I miss N9-like design. Heck, even Jolla's designs was quite interesting and has distinctive trait. I guess the rush to metal build phones is limiting design ideas. I hope I'm wrong though.

kurotsuki, 25 Jul 2017Samsung, JDI, etc is display panel manufacturers. You are c... moreI'm aware what the technology is. however, nokia will just have an okay display just like the rest of the phones.
I do give nokia props though. it's a very clever technology that while they dont have the means to stay the top of the game in display they can work on stuff like that to imrpove whatever display they manage to grab.
however they will always be behind Sony and Samsung in display technology.
when there is stuff like Sony XZP 4k hdr i find very little for Nokia to stand out anymore like they once did with the nokia lumia range. market is too saturated
and not really with a design likethat

AnonD-679970, 24 Jul 2017So Nokia shouldn't be making Android phones because you're ... morepopularity is not always a measurement of quality that is literally sheep mentality. With your logic Apple is the best phone manufacturer no?
the thing is that sony would have been popular if not for better advertising and having their phones available on US carriers one of the major things that has kept Sony out of the game. Sony is also at the forefront of display technology and sensor technology and now software game too.
with Sony XZP 4k hdr display, memory stacked sensor 960fps why would I go to nokia anymore. nokia is enterting an extremely saturated market with nothing really to provide. they can't even get the design right.

ClearBlack is a trademark for screen polarization technology from Nokia (the trademark now owned by Microsoft). This screen polarization can be applied to any display panel, whether it's IPS LCD or AMOLED alike. It's the glass panel on top of display panel to prevent reflection of light coming from outside sources like sun. CMIIW.

I have a feeling not all people agree with you that "Sony does everything better". If Sony is so great why are there even other manufacturers? Samsung is certainly selling tons more phones than Sony. Judging by the AppBrain users in July 2017 Sony's market share is 2.7% and Samsung's 49.1%. Actually Huawei, LG, Lenovo, Xiaomi and Oppo all have bigger pieces of market share than Sony, from 3.0 % to 6.4 %. There's plenty of room there for HMD/Nokia if they play their cards right.

AnonD-679970, 23 Jul 2017What's really unique about any Android phone these days? Th... morethe past is the past not dissing on the company I like some of the innovations.
However, what I found unique about nokia phones was actually that it was windows which made it stood out from any android on top of having nice design. The last well designed nokia phone was the 930 the 950 was a complete disaster.
With sony on the market why would i want to go to nokia exactly when sony does almost everything better. Nothing standout anymore you're latching onto a brand name from long ago. move on with the world.

Nokia 8 is not seemed to be a flagship phone by its design and some other stuffs
If Nokia want to rule again in the world of mobile phones then they should change there design like today's flagship ones . Nokia 8 is missing lots of old Nokia technology like clear black display, xenon flash, and many other

I've been using Moto G for years and I love how close to pure Android it is. I've used Samsung's phones and their GUI is ok although I tend to install Nova Launcher on all of my devices. The build quality? Judging by the reviews HMD's Nokia phones seem to be quite sturdy although I haven't used any since I'm waiting for 7 or 8. The design? All phones pretty much look alike these days. I personally always use cases in my phones because I seem to be dropping them all the time, and in the end it's the case I'm always seeing and touching, not the phone itself.
What matter a lot are the phone security updates and the lack of bloatware. My god how annoying it is to have certain apps on my tablet and phone that I cannot remove. Lenovo also delivered security updates for less than two years on my Moto G. Hopefully HMD will do better like they've promised.
Many of the inventions used in phones these days were invented by Nokia. They have tons of patents and other companies keep paying them license fees. I'm not saying Samsung and other manufacturers don't deserve credit for their inventions because they absolutely do but it's silly to pretend that all the work Nokia has done over the years somehow doesn't matter at all anymore.
BTW, I was mostly a Nokia user before they sold their mobile side to Microsoft so I certainly have some history with them. (I keep wishing HMD would bring out an Android version of E7 *sigh*). Windows Phone was a terrible misstep for Nokia. They could easily be up there with Samsung in popularity had they just ditched Symbian for Android.

there is really nothing unique about nokia anymore. You guys are just hoping on brandwagon. Nokia lumia phones were cool with windows OS and nice design but those two no longer exist.

kurotsuki, 20 Jul 2017Guess what? The Lumia of the past does have great displays,... moresounds like a marketing gimmick to me. Only samsung, JDI, and sharp have any innovation in display technology. Again, what was unique about nokia was the windows UI with that gone its too competitive of a market for someone to go to nokia especially with an ugly design like that with big bezels. even pixel 2 looks nice.

If your covered up the logo and all the markings, I doubt that anyone could tell in a blind test of 5 Androids which was which, as all the same apk on Android
In the end it will depend on the hardware phone design & shape and especially price
Despite this Nokia are inexpensive, Blackberry on Android are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE
Finding phones with removable batteries seem to be be get ting rarer each year just to justify waterproofing

Let's just hope the Nokia 8 gets better reviews than the Nokia 5 did.
http://www.techradar.com/reviews/nokia-5-review
5.3" is fine. I don't mind 5.5"-5.7", but 5"-5.3" and lighter weight feels more tolerable with one hand. I believe this or Nokia 9 will be my next purchases. I believe Pixel 2 will lose the headphone jack. The V30 is too much like the G6. The Note8 will be laggy af again. The iPhone 8 will be jack-less again.
Nokia 8 could be the Android flagship to get in 2017.
