Vista is now buggy because the new OS is something new as of now.i remember the XP having same problem before as i have firstly used it, i was somehow amazed and screwed with that OS. but after a year the OS is already stable and has lots of support and is very fast, user friendly and has cool GUI. that will be the same as vista.yeah it needs higher capacity RAM, needs PCIe Video cards and a fast dual core(maybe) athlon X2 or core 2 duo. but remember that the prices of these hardwares comes down as the technology rises so don't worry about the requirements. just time is needed and the vista will rule the microsoft OS once again.
my impression on this UMPC is that is is marketed by HTC not to be a useful communication tool, but something to be brag by the manufacturer showing how they can make the best things. it doesn't seem to comply the users needs as it has everything but majority of the users don't need so many extras as the weight constantly increases as features are inserted in one device. this is a very good communicator but not very useful imho.
i was somehow agreed that the windows mobile 6 is better for a mobile device. but as i say HTC wants to show that nokia isn't the king of mobility. so they had put vista on this one.
performance wise i doubt it would come close to the other UMPCs as the via processor is rather poor. even the AMD duron/athlon 1Ghz beats it performance wise. same thing as if intel is used. if it uses intel or AMD then it'll be better imo. but i remember that a mobile device needs to have via processor to have better battery life. but if a computer uses a powerful OS without a powerful processor it's useless. just like how HTC compromised Speed to fulfil battery performance increase. this is one major flaw of HTC over the pocket PCs and even UMPCs. hope HTC would learn from Asus and Imate.

Vista is horrible: inefficient, expensive (over 5 billion dollars for development! Tens of thousands of hours of waist of engineering - for a small cosmetic changes with bugs and driver problems. And what a hassle for millions of consumers - since no way to get new PCs without it.
Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 PocketPC do almost everything or Mobil 6.0 will do. (Faster, and more efficiently)
But I guess people with "Hummers" do not need anything else just another expensive toy to show off.
For $2K you can get not a 17" but a 12"-14" notebook, a decent phone, and still able to change couple of kids life in Africa or Asia (or anywhere else).
(It is almost an art piece - nice unit! But in couple of years unlike real art it becomes toxic waste and you need to pay to get rid off ;)

why do all those complain about this device who wouldn't buy one anyway in the first place! if you're into 17inch widescreen laptops (laptop..hahahahaa) for gaming, then you're not buying this one. but if you connect a bluetooth headset then this device just needs a competitor! which other device IN THE SAME market share can show these specs? phone, connectivity that has NO OTHER device. if it sported LINUX, everybody would complain, now it has VISTA and everybody complains..do you want win 98? come on guys, this thing rocks, has everything and if it costs under 2000 dollars then give it a go!

Nice Idea but:
1: Vista - needs too much power, too much memory and it has too many bugs - > unreliable slow performance, short battery life.
2: Price - it will be $2000 (USD) - I have read an article with the quote from HTC.
(now you can get the Sony crap for $1200 with that stupid small screen – nobody can do PC work on a 5-7” screen )
3: no GPS
I think it is no contest between this unit and the HTC X7500:
The only benefit would be a larger hard drive and the larger screen. But, the disadvantage is so much more that I can not imagine a situation when someone picks this over:
- the X7500 or
- notebook / tablet + cell phone
Again, Vista and power consumption are deal killers themselves.
The large size - unpractical - also make people stay away.
Think, what instance you need 7" screen and not happy with 5" or less. Those cases you probably need 9"-12" screen to be productive and not to go blind in the long run.
Beautiful unit though!!! But, it is a big useless toy. Sony is way behind although they can make nice, very expensive useless toys.

hey people, listen up, this will be the ultimate mobile PC for a lot of people concerned. it is for people who need vital information on the move - minute to minute.i.e. stock quotes, websites, excel sheets, which wont or can't even display on your smaller 320x240 PDAs, some sites with java dont even work on PDAs. and this has HSDPA and GPRS inbuilt. for a lot of people in cities where there arent wifi, this is perfect in the suburbs, towns, and train stations and commuting. and once you are dont can carry it around easily.

For those who can't read!:
It is an UMPC means it's categorized as PC, but in the ultra mobile form factor. So nothing close to handphone. It's a
small PC, with communication capabilities.

Nothing interest about this! I dont know if it is a Notebook or a phone?!! imagine you walking in a shopping and talking on this! or while driving no way you can hide from a cop! it's out of our class- I dont know what type of person will use this phone? cant fit into pocket cant hanging around your waist- where are you going put it? Damn, i think they make a mistake! how are you going hold it when you talk? what are you going use it for? I stick to other portable PDA phone that can do the same task and fit into my hand or my pocket- That thing is dangerous! keep it away from me!

hawk:
don't you know that the sony's UX17GP UMPC has intel cre solo 1.2GHZ inside? and this is available for months already. so there's no new about this UMPC except the mobile networks integrated with it. but remember that with USB, ou can plug in everything as simple as that. so i agree with you theres nothing new. anyway in the four umpcs you've mentioned SAMSUNG Q1 is the poorest performing UMPC. asus comes next from sony in performance imo.
