Anonymous, 21 Jul 2017so don't buy from them and go to someone else..They have no choice but to 'buy' from them. Qualcomm got some of their patents baked into the industry standard, so if you want to make a mobile phone chip that will *work* with a mobile network, you need to use those Standard-Essential patents.

What kills me is Intel's modems were not as fast as Qualcomms modems. That is why Apple slowed down the Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 7's to the speed of the iPhone 7's with Intel modems. Which was cat 9 LTE. Even though the Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 7's we're cat 11 LTE, but Apple had to make all the iPhone 7's the same speed.
So if Intel would actually make a good modem, then they could actually compete.

I remember Intel invoking some legal clauses preventing Microsoft from emulating its instruction set on non-Intel processors (specifically mobile processors).
This has so far prevented Microsoft from making its desktop operating system work with the more power efficient mobile processors.
With this preamble, it appears to me to be a case of double standards on the side of Intel. They'd better shut up and live with it or open up the market for free competition.

Hahaha, what a hypocrite Intel's logic, which monopoly the PC market with every shitty tactic over AMD. BTW, your mobile chipset sucks, that's why it can't sell today.

Shame on you Intel..
You and microsoft and Apple are biggest losers.
Qualcomm isn't monoploy because there is mediatek and exynos too.
Apple earns billions of dollars because of over costly iphones.
There should be limit on the profits of a company.

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2017Lol intel did same to amd, give incentive to ensure HP, asu... moreFor some oems, it was more like amd option tops out at 768p screen, slow hard drive and 4gb ram, when base intel option gives you full hd, ssd and 8gb.
Therefore artificially making amd the low end budget option.

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2017you got a problem with MTK?Other than the fact they do not care for the law (as the many GPL violations they had over the years clearly state), no problem whatsoever with the crappy Merdiateks.

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2017You don't know who is Qualcomm? Is the major player and the... moreActually that's just a fraction of what they are, and a very recent fraction I may add (that only really took-off after they acquired AMD's mobile unit -- which came from ATI). They are the #1 (radio) modem expert, a real reference and mogul of the radio world. Royally kicking Intel's behind (in radio) at a fraction of their division's budget for decades now.
Apparently Intel is now crying "no-fair", sucks to be the underdog for so many years.

Anonymous, 22 Jul 2017Nope, it's not that others can't provide the same product, ... moreUnlike what Intel does with x86, that has "oh-so-many" competitors given the "really fair and low" royalties they charge... right. Hadn't AMD come-up with AMD64 (x86-64) forcing Intel to cross-license with them, you'd be royally screwed!
