Nokia N9 spotted at FCC, has five 3G/HSPA bands, still not official

12 May, 2011
The long-rumored Nokia N9 was spotted among the online FCC files and that gives us a glimpse at a schematic and also info on the wireless connectivity of the device. The last time we’ve heard of Nokia’s...

GAH! Y U NO Battery? having an awesome device that you can only use plugged into the charger in your basement is NOT what i am looking for. us geeks need to travel between basements and work too!

Lithium Batteries dont weigh that much, and the extra volume it would take up is not a concern.

Dont give me bullshit like "if you turn off everything other than 2G wireless receiver, you get 9001+ hours of standby" thats not what the phone is for. give me enough battery so i can hammer it solidly with games, music, video playback whilst running bluetooth and gps. sure, i could use external batteries, but they are annoying, and are very vunerable to breaking the charger port when used on the move.

Yet Another Android, 13 May 2011While I agree that it takes Nokia FOREVER to release a devi... moreCouple things wrong with your statement here.

The device you linked to is known as the LG Gw990. It is not a full HD screen. Its 1024x480. So no the videos weren't running at 1080. It was compressed video.

The device is also running moorestown which is an atom CPU in a mobile device and has horrible power consumption. Intel is planning to use PowerVR 545 for their atom devices.

I don't know what you think "doing 1080p" is, its just video playback and whatever OS incorporates codecs that can efficiently do that then they are "doing 1080p" first. Guess what? Moblin(OS used in the video) is a linux variant so of course Linux has already have 1080p playback. So not surprising that their device can play back 1080 albeit downscaled to 480?

Wait till it comes out. Its gonna be huge. Meego I mean . I just hope tht the guys at Nokia do a better job at marketing Meego than what they did with Maemo. They mebbe didnt think tht Maemo wud appeal to non Geek users. The OS is just mind blowing. And most o the people I meet hv never heard of this phone. First question I get asked sumone sees my N900 is:"Android right?". I mean very few really know about this OS frm Nokia

simple user, 13 May 2011whatever specs N9 has, they will be outdated till phone is ... moreYou are mistaken, even if it has a lower headline clock speed it will be faster than Android, becuase its native linux as will all the apps.

Nokia has plenty of experience in getting the most out of battery and cpu and with a dedicated gpu cpu wont need to be as powerfull.

UB, 13 May 2011You don't understand how ARM Processors work: All ARM Proce... moreYou are partially correct, in that the core is the same a Cortex A9 (in this case in dual core configuration). However, how you put it together in the final SoC can make a huge difference. So at best you can say is those devices are approximately equal.

And you right the MHz numbers can be very misleading. For example a 1GHz Cortex A8 is not equivalent to a 1GHz Cortex A9 in single core configuration let alone dual core.

[deleted post]While I agree that it takes Nokia FOREVER to release a device, need I remind you that Nokia already promised a device THIS YEAR?

Also, as far as people thinking Android phones were doing full 1080p video first, check this video out from June of LAST YEAR showing MEEGO doing 1080p back then:

                        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAB-Cqe0yz8

Now who were you saying was outdated with 1080p HD video?
Also, LOL with the 2.8GHZ processor. I'd like to add to that sentence, "and they are still trying to get the Samsung GS6 to run stably even by overclocking it to 3.0GHZ".

Now to stop defending Nokia, They need to get off their lazy butts and get some devices out here that can compete as far as pricing. No average consumer will walk into a store and see a phone (Not even an Android one) and see a $600+ price tag and say, "I must have that". If anything, they'll see the price tag and walk right past it. No phone is worth $600+. Off contract should be no higher than $450-$500, on contract should be no higher than $199-$250. If they want their devices to fly off shelves, then they will have to realize that. Nokia's main problems are:

                        - Pricing
                        - Delaying devices for too long
                        - Not willing to Subsidize
                        - Marketing

If they can fix those issues, then they should gain alot of it's lost consumers back but until then, Nobody will pay $600+ for a phone that doesn't have Autofocus, Even if it is a Carl Zeiss Lens and this is saying alot from me because I'm a huge Nokia Fan. I hope Nokia reads this and learns that they need to hurry up and release some Meego devices, drop their prices, market it on TV as well as Internet Ads, and get them Subsidized through Carriers. I have been waiting on Meego for too darn long and will not wait forever as many others can agree. WE WANT A MEEGO DEVICE BUT WE WON'T WAIT FOREVER!!!

Like it or not Linux powers your online world. 90% of the worlds servers are powered by Linux. Something IOS & Android is not capable of not being a massivly scaling architecture. \.Linux is not going to go away. Wait and see Meego's power.

Who said the rumour specs are just not possible for Nokia to build such as high end device. I'm afraid it is possible. You see the N900 had an 800x480pixel display with 32GB of built in memory & MicroSD to accomodate a 32GB memory card. HD an 8MP cameras being the standard & 1GHz CPU's being the standard I can see the hardware specs of N9 or N9.01 or N950 whatever it is beingf very plausible.

For instance 1280x720 is a res that Meego will support for larger tablets. This is not to say that Nokia won't put a 800x480 or even 960x480 and even AMOLED seems to be the norm now. The device will probably get 4.0" of real estate aswell I think that's enough until it gets too big to be just a pocketable device.

64GB of memory seems very viable, very possible for Nokia, so does AMOLED, 720P, *MP plus camera HD, MicroSD, 1GHz plus, 4" screen AMOLED, BT3.0, USB OTG. Trust me Meego already flys on a 600MHz N900. hahaha. Wait till you see it on nokias flagship. Hope it has a keyboard too. I really though this device was dead & this saddened the hearts of fellow linux, maemo, n900 users such as myself. Now we arejumping for joy with such a piece of beautiful "elegant hardware"
