Nokia E6 and X7 go on pre-order in Germany, seem pricey

14 May, 2011
When announced a month ago, the Nokia duo E6 and X7 caused a good deal of excitement. Packing the latest Symbian update, called Anna, the two smartphones proved that the OS is not yet ready to head into...

Seeing the retail prices for E6, we understand that Nokia is trying to milk the cash cow for lack of real innovation and ability to keep abreast with competition. I had a Nokia E72. After experiencing the Apple environment both on my new Macbook Air and later on iPod, I switched most satisfactorily to iPhone 4 and forgot all about the Nokia offering, of which the E7 and the E6. Even though Windows Phone 7 turns out to be THE software solution for them, I wonder how Nokia will be able to revamp their image in consumers' minds, for they very much appear today more like peddlers and second-hand car salesmen than a high-tech company. A sad day for Nokia.

Who care about BT 3.0, DLNA is the way forward guys or cloud sharing over phones.

The price is really high as compared to other products in the market.

Also not sure if OS ANNA have any issues, will X7 be getting any further updated, who knows. better off going with the Android as a OS, atleast a hope to get an update.

AnonD-695, 16 May 2011still it does not say that bt 3.0 is as fast as 2.0I had given you a link earlier did you read it (the whole article) ?

              http://www.gsmarena.com/wireless_n_bluetooth_3_speed_test-review-551.php

It was a test done by GSMarena on 4 Bluetooth 3.0 certified devices namely the iPhone 4, the Nokia N8, the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S and the Samsung S8500 Wave.

They clearly say that they get the same BT 2.1 speed with 3.0 certified devices. It cant get clearer that this.

              Quotes from GSMarena:

"Right from the very first sample tests we did on both the Wireless N tech and Bluetooth 3.0 we knew something was wrong – we weren’t getting the advertised improvements. Now how about that? "

"Devices that support Alternate MAC/PHY are certified as “Bluetooth 3.0+HS” (High Speed) and ones that don’t are certified as just “Bluetooth 3.0” and are limited to regular Bluetooth transfer speeds (no Wi-Fi magic)"

"The Bluetooth SIG website settled any remaining doubts we had. None of the phones we checked were Bluetooth 3.0+HS certified, they support just the vanilla v3.0. This put an end to this speed test – 24Mbps just wasn’t going to happen so when you come to pick your next uber-smartphone you can safely ignore the Bluetooth 3.0 specs as long as they don’t list HS explicitly."

"right now we’ll have to settle for Bluetooth 2.1+EDR speeds no matter what the box label say"

If you don't believe it, you can perform the same test with couple of BT 3.0 and 2.1 devices and see for yourself.

The E6 is annonced by the German Online Shop Cyberport.de for 379.90 EUR. Cyberport is one the bigger German online shops with a good price level, about in the lower third of price scale. So we may hope for a price near 350 EUR at the low end.

The X7 is in the same shop for 429.90 EUR.

the proof i wanted was some factual or statistics proving that the data transfer speed of bt 3.0 is the same with 2.0. i am already aware about bt3.0 hs on the galaxy 2

the data cost was actually refering to google maps. before 5.0 i need to download maps everytime and this burdens me with data cost.

I don't understand why some of you tend to dismiss symbian^3 phones' features? For example N8 is one of the most feature rich phones out there. The only things missing are gyroscope, flash 10, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot, though the latter is available through a free app.

Top android phones are very feature rich too, and Galaxy S II has the most features ever, besides 3D, but resorting to excuses in order to bash nokia is just pathetic.

They are not better, but certainly not worse.
