Nokia E6 and X7 go on pre-order in Germany, seem pricey

14 May, 2011
When announced a month ago, the Nokia duo E6 and X7 caused a good deal of excitement. Packing the latest Symbian update, called Anna, the two smartphones proved that the OS is not yet ready to head into...

mmmm... Considering the Samsung Galaxy S2 was priced at 599 Euro when it first came out, both of these handsets are around USD$200 cheaper. Excluding VAT the prices come in at €360(USD$507) for the E6 and €385(USD$542) for the X7. Troll harder GSM

Anonymous, 14 May 2011HTC phone screens uses LCD technology where as Nokia N8/C7 ... moreIt's not simply "blacker blacks" and "whiter whites", it's just that AMOLED offers almost infinite contrast and much, much better viewing angles. Also, I have a C6-01 and the screen is already very bright, much brighter than that would hurt my eyes. Also, when I talked about screens, I'm not mentioning about display technology only, HTC phone also have pretty poor sunlight legibility, while all S^3 phones does fine. And consider that LCD technology have better brightness (as you said) so AMOLED normally have worse sunlight legibility, even though, N8 beats HTC on that.

About sound quality, you can't compare only by noise levels, maybe Incredible S does just fine, but a lot expensive HTC devices have disappointing audio quality, Nokia never disappoints on that. Also, you don't need to be a audiophile to notice high intermodulation distortion or noise levels.

Maybe not too many people need all 3G bands covered, but sure there are people who will apreciate or NEED that.

About the camera, and not only talking about the N8 as I'm not only talking about still photos, check out the video recording of most HTC devices, they usually have poor quality, poor audio and 3Gp compression. Even the cheaper S^3 devices (C6-01), beats by a huge margin.

About the N8 being a "crappy device", I will let you live with your opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I know that there are some HTC devices that are good on some aspects I've mentioned, but most of them disappoints on a lot of hardware aspects. Using a high-end CPU chip is not what makes a good hardware.

Different people, different taste I guess... ;P

[deleted post]HTC phone screens uses LCD technology where as Nokia N8/C7 uses amoled. AMOLED typically displays blacks better, where as LCD, S-LCD displays Whites better. Your pick, do you want darker blacks or whiter whites? Also Nokia has had a history of AMOLED screen problems on their N8/C7 line. This is acknowledged by Nokia. HTC typically uses S-LCD because its cheaper to manufacturer and has better yields. They would rather be able to keep up with their customer's demands, unlike Nokia who has declining customer demands so they aren't affected as much by the lower yields. Noise level on the Incredible S is rated at -82.4 vs the Nokia's N8 rated at -89.9. Nokia beats the Incredible S in that regards, on paper, however to your average user and non audiophile this isn't noticeable.

3G support is an indicator of good hardware? How often do you travel out of your country where you need to use a different 3G band? Standard Eu/Asia 3G band is the 2100 frequency. Even if you go from France to Germany if your phone supports 2100 Frequency then most likely you're covered. Unless you travel from the US to Eu or US to Asia often then multiple 3G bands are pretty much useless. Even in the US, canada shares the same 3G frequency so going from Canada to US or vice versa won't affect you. HTC markets their phones depending on the country has different 3G bands on their devices.

Camera wise, is the only thing the N8 beats HTC in, but then again when you have a crappy device over all im pretty sure you would heavily market the only thing your device is good at, taking pictures. HTC Sensation has a pretty good camera that I say can compete with the C7 head to head.

It is pre-order pricing for those who really really need to be first. :)

Once they will start shipping prices will drop. Could retain a bit premium for new design and Anna pre-installed and a tad bit earlier than for older devices.

Eh, they'll be about $200 cheaper a month after they're released. Let the front-runners who have to have them day one pay the price. That E6 will probably sit at around $250-300 unlocked by the holidays. I'll pick one up then. Most of the hardware and software issues should be ironed out by then as well. I'd never buy anything from the first batch of a Nokia run... Well, I have... several times... and after several returns and repairs I will never do it again ;)

Laurynas, 14 May 2011Honestly, I'm looking at the X7-00; C7; E7; N8 specificatio... moreThe X7 is more multimedia based. It has 4 speakers, and is part of the X-series which is based on multimedia.

The E7 is more of a business based, with a qwerty keyboard, a clear black display, it has more of a business focus.

The N8 is a much more all-rounded phone, with an awesome camera. The X7 and E7 beat the N8 in the features I mentioned before.

dunno much about the other XD.

They might have the same processor and os. but thats not the only thing that makes a phone. It is also build quality, sturdiness, different features. Since it is symbian the processor doesnt have to be a 1.2 ghz for the phone to work normally. For example the C7 is a damn strong phone, and it has the same processor and os as the N8. They dont neccessarily have the same hardware.
