Anyone who doesn't care about this is simply a fool. I'm seriously considering dumping them all (droid/iphone) in favor of a standard phone. That said, I don't travel all that much. When I do I'm needing access to email/gps and Pandora (or MP3s on the device). I don't get why I'm expected to give my privacy away for those functions and how any provider can be so perfunctory about security.

passwords are there to be hacked. software is made by programmers. hackers are programmers. mobiles phones are designed to trace people. people are like sheep. sheep are stupid.
lets go back to the old fashioned way of communication.

If its android/google its nt going to be a problem for any one normaly. However if this is a case with wp7, comments are going to be more harsh.

i dont know about you guys who dont care about this issue, but for me this is a big deal there are a lot of oppotunities on this, example you use wifi to do an online banking, you leave a trace, visit private info, you leave a trace and people who are wise on the cyber world can use this... believe me the cyber world needs to have an international law, cyberworld could be our stepping stone to move up or it could also be our downfall.. we should be wise on how can we be protected

Well, people will continue using Android for the same reason they keep using Windows. I'm not very upset by those security issues because there is very small number of people having knowledge and need to use it for malicious actions. If we all act with respect to another human being then security isn't an issue!

Lets be frank any os has security issues. de difference is most android users know enough not to use their fones over unsecured wifi. DON'T WE? YES WE DO. Can't say de same 4 applers who put their total trust in apple cos they feel some o their money goes to security dudes. Besides do a bit o Googling and yu will realise apple security gets spanked always, they r just good at covering up their poopoo

Guys you all should know that android is LINUX based code. Just back to basic why Linux and GNU project was created. I'm not say that I am the Linux fan or Windows fan but actually Linux code is created for FREE usage. These are some of effect if taking free source code become mainstream product.

Isn't this an "open wifi" problem?
All data that is transmitted thru an open wifi network is visible to all users on that wifi so packet sniffing is really simple.
To make this simple: All devices that are connected to an open wifi are vulnerable!
I don't know if this could be prevented thru an OS update or even an app update.
I could be wrong!

One day android will die. Every OS has its life cycle. The faster it goes up the faster it comes down. Android is defragmenting it self with the providers this will lead to great mess in future.

This is not an OS comparison. Why need to mention any other OS here. It’s very annoying to read those non-sense unrelated comments to the topic. The topics tackles the security hole on Android and therefore comments should be made on Android itself and not mentioning any OS that doesn’t even mentioned on the article.
I guess any device, any OS that is on unsecured WiFi is vulnerable to security holes and therefore using unsecured WiFi is not advisable for critical transactions.
