Glass is just too slippery. The reason why Samsung phones have smaller batteries and glass bodies is because they want you to drop your phone/wear out the battery so that you go and buy another one of their more expensive phones when they come out in the next two years.

Users and responsible citizens should care and express their ideas to steer stupid manufacturers away from producing flagship phones with puny batteries, fracture prone curved glass edges that make touchscreen interactions at the edges infuriating, and horribly distorted 2:1 aspect ratio screens that are more aptly called 'NarrowView' display rather than 'Infinity' display. More so since those stupid manufacturers have great influence over market trends that could spillover to well loved phones with large batteries, standard 16:9 screens and no crack-prone edges.

Choices are abound. If there is a hole in the market (like cheap flagship grade phones) someone else will be more than willing to fill that void.

A phone is a tool a person uses to do things; not some kind of responsibility to the human race.

Cheap Xiaomi casual, 08 Aug 2017No need to campaign, business has a way of doing some good ... moreI'm sure you own one of these "Legalize it" t-shirts. That would explain your massively careless attitude:
"I'll just stick my head in the sand, ignore all current developments, and because something good happened years ago with the 1+ One, something good will happen again. ... Ooooh, look at these pretty pink fairies! Whee!"

Sorry to burst your bubble, but unless you've been living under a rock, you should've noticed what has become of 1+. With the 1+ 5, they've been caught red-handed cheating in several regards: cheating in the benchmarks, cheating with the camera which doesn't have the promised 2x zoom but in fact only 1.3x optical zoom, etc.
Already with earlier phones, their performance got worse and worse, but the 1+ 5 easily takes the cake. The 1+ has long stopped being a flagship killer, but instead became yet another overpriced flagship with lots of crap going on. They're no bit better than Shamesung anymore, e.g. the 1+ 5 has just the same tiny 3300 mAh battery that the Shamesung Note 8 has. It even has a worse endurance rating than the S8 (non-plus), which only has a 3000 mAh battery.

AnonD-684709, 07 Aug 2017Oh, but we should care. We *must* care! Shamesung really ... moreThat's the biggest problem. Every company started to put garbage. The only phone I will buy from shamesung will be the a5 2018 IF it doesn't have that curved shit edge garbage. I am fine with glass back (just put a clear view cover case) but that edge is seriosly garbage.
I have seen some people that were using s6 edge, s7 edge... and nost of them were cracked. And the screen protector is impossible to put because it will make the screen rainbowish.

If a big enough market exists for a phone of your liking, it will be made. Case in point: the OnePlus One (or the Xiaomi Mi3). That was a phone made when everybody complained about expensive flagships, and was clamoring for cheaper phones. I'm an optimist; I know something like that will happen again.

              Trust the process.

Anonymous, 07 Aug 2017Right. A note active. And if they started a big battery ten... moreThe reason is that Samsung is thinking of a limited battery, since it will surely won't be as effective. They need more funds from selling wireless chargers, and "official" powerbanks. It's mainly more about profits, less customer-oriented. They hold back on giving the high battery capacity so the charging cycles will be more. The more the cycles are spent, the faster those units will have less efficiency.

On the Note 4, it was more about giving it all- better screen, removable battery, better S Pen, even with a metal frame everyone was asking for. Heck, the suggestion for a "premium" glass back was just absurd

On the Note.5 however, sealing the battery and reducing it to 3000 mAh, glass back and no memory expansion was truly something most of us could not take. It was trying to be like an iPhone - Samsung had lost its way about what the Galaxy Note was. WE have complained, and sales of the Note.5 was a hard sell.

We then got the memory expansion back, and better features at least with the Note7, but trying to be thin with a big battery proved to be the an explosively expensive experience for them. We don't need a phone that's less than 8mm thick. We need more battery, and it could ramp up to at least 4000 mAh battery, and they did that with the S8 Active at 9.9mm thick.

Now I have a 50/50% chance of making up my mind of getting the Note8 because I know I have to keep charging in the middle of the day because of a battery that will not sufficiently hold enough power. I already experienced this with the Note7.

Shamesung really produces the biggest garbage ever, and it only goes worse and worse with every generation.

Look at the Shamesung Note 7 exploding battery disaster. Could that happen to a company that even gives the slightest damn about quality? Certainly not!
Their S7 edge was no bit better. I've had it for half a year now, and the oh so great edge is the most useless gimmick ever.
The battery is even far worse. I went from a Sony Xperia Z5 with 2900 mAh to the S7 edge with *supposed* 3600 mAh. I expected much better battery life, but in fact, it wasn't the tiniest bit better. After half a year only, the battery is even clearly *worse* now than the Z5 after well over a year! Even though it's supposed to have 700 mAh more!

As I said, Shamesung is only producing garbage, which is sold exclusively by huge marketing campaigns, and not by quality, which isn't there in the first place.

The more people buy that garbage at street robbery prices from Shamesung, the more people start to believe the ridiculous lies from the marketing and start to believe it's actually good.

What's worse, other manufacturers also start to believe Shamesung would be any good. Take Xiaomi, for example. They did an awesome device with the Mi Mix. Awesome borderless screen, awesome huge battery, awesome ceramics body designed by Philippe Starck, 6GB RAM and 256GB Rom... It was only marred by the low end crap Omnivision camera.

Then Xiaomi is losing their mind and is starting to emulate Shamesung with their Mi Note 2. What could've been a good phone is ruined by the same awful edge found in the S7 edge... or all of S8.

I think it's a very disturbing trend, if other manufacturers start to emulate the retarded garbage that came from Shamesung. Today it's the retarded edge, tiny batteries are also getting ever more common, with Shamesung as the forerunner for tiny batteries...

So yes, we *must* care, and we also should be concerned. *Very* concerned. Don't buy any hyped garbage from Shamesung, or any other manufacturers that produce garbage, or it will only get worse and worse, and you'll get ever more garbage.

Criticize the Note 8's puny battery and buying another model at the same time (Samsung brand or other) to influence the insane direction of major phone manufacturers putting puny batteries in major flagships. Where else would you start criticizing, from smaller, lesser known manufacturers or from iconic brands who set the trend? Many bad comments about small mediocre batteries for flagship phones like what you read here will influence Samsung to improve battery capacities in the future or at least come up with an 'active' version for the note. Then that will make not only Samsung fans but other users also happy. Imagine if Samsung starts the big battery trend in flagships--- that would mean other Android manufacturers will follow suit.
