14 August 2017
The handset's Face Recognition functionality allows you to unlock the phone even when the display is off.

Merwyn Fernandes, 14 Aug 2017Amoled displays only light pixels that the image displayed ... moreActually, this is the biggest misconception about OLED vs LCD. A large part of the display power draw is not due to the display itself, but due to the display driver (hardware to manage the display). When the display is off, the display driver is off. When even one pixel of the display is lit, the display driver must be on and takes up maybe 10-30% of the total power consumption. Samsung's Always-On Display on the OLED Galaxy S7/S8 consumes *more* power than LG's Always-On Display on the TFT LG G5 and G6 (there are tests you can find on established sites). But LG is really smart, they build a special separate display driver only for AOD, and also they shut down 2/3 of the backlight even with AOD on.

I think LG needs new UX designers to remove bulky and old look from there stock launcher.

Kangal, 14 Aug 2017Btw people, if the V30 gets a 6 inch display that would mea... moreIts not that bad. Just mere 0.5 inch difference. Nobody care. 5.5" or 6" phone. Both are decent size. 18:9 or 16:9 it doesnt matter. Why so nitpicky with such small difference? LG V30 6" 18:9 is equivalent to 5.5" 16:9 you said. Does it really matter? The original LG V10 & V20 was 5.7" + 2.1 inch secondary display. Now, they get rid of that stupid secondary screen and simply elongated the screen instead. That is way way better in my opinion.

This phone gets my vote for the best phablet flagship device of 2017. Second place will be for the Note 8, and third will be for the Mate 10.

Merwyn Fernandes, 14 Aug 2017Amoled displays only light pixels that the image displayed ... moreYou are correct......AOD where tested for battery life on the s8 i think and the difference was like 2 or 3 % consuption over 24hrs so the difference is basically negligible.

Looks pretty nice. Maybe LG has made a button or something to make 16:9 movies fit into 18:9 (stretching out). Can't wait to feel the V30 in my hands.

And everyone complaining about S8 design, it's defenitly not. S8 has a curved screen, V30 probably 2.5D screen.

Vegetaholic, 14 Aug 2017AOD biggest gimmick in nowadays smartphones, why waist batt... moreAmoled displays only light pixels that the image displayed needs and since AOD is mostly black the area ofthe pixels that is lit is very minimal hence the battery wastage you talk about is a myth also this feature is very useful to peek at quick notifications in case LCD displays it may be a waste and pull batter but in case of v30 which is supposed to have an oled display this won't be a problem

Kangal, 14 Aug 2017Btw people, if the V30 gets a 6 inch display that would mea... moreDo you think with the rising trend for 18:9 display there won't be any content in the future that will support these displays stop this dumb logic of yours most of the content on the phone is usable in 18:9 Ratio except some content that does not support 18:9 Ratio yet but will soon be implemented hence you will be able to use the whole display which will be 6 inches.

Btw people, if the V30 gets a 6 inch display that would mean the screen ACTUALLY BECAME SMALLER.

                      LG V20 = 16:9 5.7" = 89.57cm2 area
                      LG V30 = 18:9 6.0" = 83.84cm2 area

And when watching a video (majority 16:9), the V30 would be equivalent to a 5.48 inch screen. Not even 5.5". And you will have letterboxing/black-bars on the long sides. So people please don't fall for the "elongation trick" and think you're getting a much larger display. In fact, you're usually getting a smaller display with less usable space when watching videos, or using Apps that haven't been optimised.

                      A quick rule of thumb:
If the screen is stretched out, take out 0.5 inches from the specs, and that's roughly how large it is compared to a 16:9 one. (ie/ a 5.7" 18:9 ~ 5.2" 16:9).

Lg doesn't say anything about battery life. Biggest problem of all lg phones for many years. G6 mediocre battery life 5.7inch with 3000mah. V30, 6inch smaller 3200mah battery. What lg did to improve battery Life?? Now samsung going very best. Asus using 5000mah battery but Samsung get same battery life score with only 3300mah battery. Which company more caring about our world and environment? Only Samsung and they pay alot money for improvements. I don't like much Samsung but i respect them. Lg can never be the serious phone seller in market with their sucks battery life. All lg phones same use 5hrs battery dies charge, all the time carry on power bank or charge cable. Dumb company ever never respect to their customers..

AOD biggest gimmick in nowadays smartphones, why waist battery life when you don't look at the screen, if you need to check info just take a phone and press home button, useless function

This feature isn't that desirable on an LDC-IPS panel.
                              Why?
It needs to turn the backlighting on, which burns though battery life quickly.

It would be better on an OLED (or SAMOLED).
                              Why?
You could make it completely black, and only light up a small portion of pixels (even red ones to use less power) to sip though that battery on idle. It wouldn't be as good as eInk displays, but its the simpler solution and works well enough.
