Weekly poll: now that the Nokia 8 is official, is Nokia back?

20 August 2017
The fabled brand took a long, winding path to where it needed to be - making high-end Androids. But did HMD do enough?

Yes they are back but not as we expected to be but still a good comeback nevertheless...i still wish Nokia not abandoned Meego platform and moved to windows mobile cause if Meego is still around it would have been the best alternative to android or iOS...

I actually wish them best, despite not being happy with their boring attitude. Its just great to see another player with intention to mess standards of main players. I hope they can bring some crazy exciting devices original in style & tech soon, there is just too many of copyphones.

yes it is back, obviously. but a nokia that was considered great, it is far from it. i might consider the xiaomi mi6 over the Nokia 8, the One Plus is slightly superior for me due to AMOLED display.

While the Nokia 8 seems like a pretty good phone, in no way is it Pathbreaking. And that is why it doesn't really seem that exciting. Nokia, for the longest had almost no real competition. And when it returns, it is unable to bring back the glory of its former great phones. The camera on this his one seems good and the screen seems pretty good. But nothing on the phone individually is absolutely class-leading.
Hopefully the Camera is worthy of fighting foe the title with the smartphone champs out there.

Voted No. Really needs smaller bezels and a bigger battery. Everything else is good though

To all dear buddies i can only say that it is just the start just wait and watch how things will turn around and the king will get back its glory not to mention that the same iphone you talk about the same company has struggled a couple of decades to reach this point but our nokia after a decade will again prove its mettel.

I think it's a fantastic phone. I'm still trying to understand why so many people are allergic to bezels.

Make the nokia 9 in the lumia 1520 body waterproof it a good selfie cam pureview and zeis optics and deal with the screen flicker and they would smash record sales provided its sensibly priced

People love to see what everyone is offering at least in android lineup. Definitely Samsung is major player and has got huge fans, but I don't smell ignorance towards lg, sony, htc. They have got good response for their last flagship.. People are eagerly waiting for OP and Xiaomi phones too..

I don't think they'll do anything with the 8. Their best bet is midrange devices. You need quite a lot of advertising budget just to sell premium phones. And being a new company (or not seen for quite a while in the mainstream market) requires even more budget. And with the likes of Samsung, Apple, LG... Even Google could only sell a very few millions despite their enormous budget (and the fact they control the most used and lucrative advertising network of the internet)...

IF hmd will be aggressive in marketing, pricing and make its products available in ALL markets, it could come back fast (2 years time)...AND it should always use the latest available hardware as well as make short the gap between announcement and release of products...

This phone is just missing that WOW factor that Nokia/HMD needs to really get back in the market. Yeah it's a nice high end phone for a good price but so are soooo many other phones that you could fight for with the same exact argument. It just doesn't stick out from the competition enough. If this phone came from HTC or Sony there would be no argument that it's just another good phone; but the Nokia brand name gives it a bit more attention. Right now the only thing this phones got going for it is that it's a Nokia. After years of failure as a brand and many new younger buyers not having the Nokia nostalgia factor, I just don't think it's enough.

It's a more than adequate handset - but that's just what it is. This is "yet_another_contender back", not "Nokia back". When they come up with something I can't easily get from any of ten other phones, ask me again - especially if it's a _landscape_ hardware QWERTY; if it's micron-thin bezels or some supa-hypa fingerprint reader, don't even bother...

Back in the game? Yes! But it's a different game than 10 years ago... I grew up on Nokia phones and want to see the brand excel again but pricing (for all world markets low med and high) will dictate how successful they are. There are lots of other world markets that Samsung dominates currently cause of pricing, technology and features...

Nokia is back, alright, but will it get some decent market share?I kinda doubt..Android competition is way too big for Nokia.I would like to see Nokia steals away some share off Samsung,LG,Sony,HTC..But they cannot compete with chinese...Huawei,Xiaomi,Oneplus...
I just cannot imagine people who would buy S8,IP7,8,XZ,U11,G6,V30,to change their mind and go for Nokia,at least on the flagship territory...On the budget end,Xiaomi(and others) will eat for breakfast anything that Nokia will come up with..

Not sure about that. Too early to say Nokia is back to conquer the Android market. But it seems impossible to do so.
